i mite be jus talking out my backside but why havnt we been using the screen pass at all? jujo can catch decent outa the backfield and everyteam is blitzing us hard. why not take advantage of the bullseye on bledslows head and run some screens when they look blitz heavy? just an opinion tho

maybe our line is to slow to beat their blockers then run and go block down field for JuJo or MB3 or TTT

lol tu shea'. im jus saying why did we go and get a "mobile" guard like kosier instead on LA (i put it in quotes 4 a reason dont jump on me.) wasnt a more mobile line suppose to open us up to things like that? i jus wanna see something that would use the spead of our backs ya know? i cant imagine gettin jujo or TT into open space on a good 1

For some reason i see TT as a Micheal Bennett (now with the cheifs i believe formally of the vikings/saints) when he would get open no one would touch him, as he was a former track super star turned footballer.
but dont get me wrong with the screen pass i love it when the line blocks for the back, even our slightly modified "screen" where the backer runs at an angle and the TE and WR block for him works.

my point is why not try it 1 or 2 times just to slow down the pass rush a half step?

I've been asking the same question ... you are not alone.

Perhaps, Bledsoe just isn't nimble enough to draw them in and then make a quick dumpoff... (By the time he finishes patting the ball, he will have been flattened by the rush... :D)

thank u. i think this next game should be the time to get that down cuz they are high on themselves 4 gettin Vick 7 times and they are prob wanting to get bledsoe 20. lets hit that play 1st time they send big blitz and keep em on there toes

Yeah more passes to the backs period would be nice ... with a special emphasis on screens. Add a little flat pass here and a wheel route there and things could get very interesting.

Our situation is tailor made for it. We have a couple backs that are pretty damn good in the open field with nice hands and our QB needs every last drop of help he can get from the playcalling to stay off his back. Almost makes to much sense. Probably why we'll never see it. It would give those ends of the Giants a little something extra to worry about also before they pin their ears back every time Drew drops back to uncork one.

I don't understand why we don't throw quickslants when defenses bring heavy pressure. Also, a three step drop and then lob the ball into the air down the field. Not sure what the name of that play is called. Play action might work if we tried it once in a while too.

The OL have to hold their blocks for a screen to develope.....must I continue?

They have to hold them for a second, then release and let the pressure come up the field. If anything, we should be pretty use to only holding off the blitz for a second or so!! :)

I agree that must be the problem. Too much sense.

I posted this before, but I'll keep posting it until somebody can explain it. Only 5.6% of our completed passes have been to our RB's That puts us 32nd in the NFL. Julius has been especially good as a receiver, but we hardly use him. If not for a holding call on Rivera vs the Skins, JJ would have 3 catches for 109 yards.

We've only thrown it to Julius 4 times all season. When Payton was OC, we threw it to Julius about 4 times per game.

One reason for the lack of slants and screens is probably due to the fact that Bledsoe sucks at short throws. Their either about the take the receivers hands off or thrown about 2 feet in front of their feet.

In fact, I'd be willing to say he is probably the worst at putting any type of "touch" on the ball....maybe just ahead of Vick.

True that short passes were never his forté.

But last year with the same QB, and even though each of them missed three games, Jones and Barber had 53 receptions between them. This year if both of them play all 16 games, they're on pace for 29 receptions. Bledsoe couldn't have got that much worse over the off-season.

Or could he?

That is rather odd considering the season we had Richie Anderson catching balls left and right.

I understand why we threw so many short passes that season. The coaches didn't want to put it on Quincy to throw long much, and when he did, we had AB dropping two-thirds of them anyway.

This year, Glenn and Witten are seeing just as many opportunities as last year. It looks like the passes that used to go to the backs have been going to TO. I wonder if that would be the case if Payton were still here.

Maybe the additions of TO and Fasano to some extent have something to do with it. Bledsoe realizes that he has more firepower at WR/TE than he ever has before, and he may feel like he has to force the issue more downfield due to the talent. Just a shot in the dark here.

One thing about Aikman, he would check down to the backs all the time. I HATED it when I was younger. I was like "THROW THE BALL DOWNFIELD!!" As opposed to 40 passes per year to Moose who would get 2-3 yards, and maybe break 1-2 a year. But as I've matured, I've realized you have to do that and not force it. It opens up the secondary, brings the LBs closer to the LOS, etc.

Yeah, it may also be Bledsoe feeling the pressure to get TO in his corner.
