SDogo Mock Off Season V 2.0

That is no excuse. Many of us has been waiting for any little tidbits that you have about the Cowboys draft much like couchscout's analysis of the games. :laugh2: Seriously, I am glad your business is doing well and hopefully it will continue to get better. Best of luck to you and your future endeavors. I, as many others on here appreciate your mocks and information.

Oh I tend to get psyched up around the beginning of March so I'm sure business or not my excitement will spill over in here.:D

Love his pick. Really like the player, and I would be thrilled with getting him in the 3rd. I think he'll go in the 2nd, but getting him in the 3rd is A+

Love this pick too. Will be a more productive pass rusher and displays more plus pass rushing skills than the losers in round 1 (Upshaw and Ingram). I don't know if he can handle the SOLB duties of Spencer, but I like the player. Never can have enough pass rushers. Unfortunately, I think we might have to draft him in Round 2 if we want him. He is going to destroy the combine and be a 2nd round pick. If you can get him for me in the 4th? A++

There are two picks in my mock that has players down further then expected right now and I recognize that. In years past I have stuck to my guns and I'll use Brandon Spikes for an example. Graded by many in the 2nd round for most of the draft process I ignored the hints that his stock was falling going into the draft and stuck with my initial evaluation. I'll see how it works doing it the other way for once.

HELL YEAH. Favorite pick. This is the guy I listed as my pet cat in the pet cat thread. Would LOVE to add him to the team. I'd be happy taking him in the 5th on (and maybe even 4th....)

This pick aint changing in my mock and like you I have no problem doing it a round earlier if need be.

I really like the additions of Ben Grubbs and Kelechi Osemele. Great job. I'd really like to get both Cordy Glenn and Osemele, but I have to get one of them. You gave me one of them. Ben Grubbs is a perfect fit, because he is really good in the running game and really good on the move. He should be cheaper. Plus, he's from Auburn. Excellent...

Janoris Jenkins is my favorite CB and the best player available in the draft and free agency to man the LCB spot. I gave up Glenn to get him, but I still get Kelechi. Plus, you drafted another CB in round 3. That was smart and very much needed. Win.

What ever we do this off season in FA and the draft I feel Dallas needs to come away with 2 CB's and 2 new faces along the OL.

Loving that mock and offseason. Great job. Hope it pans out like this.

Sdogo, is there any chance you are a victim of the Jigantic Jerruh smokescreen machine as regards Jenkins?

With the hightened awareness of this problem; and with Hurd still in the back of everyones mind.

I don't believe so but I'll never guarantee anything when it comes to Jerry, smoke screens and players with a past. Based on what I have heard I'm fairly confident right now that Jenkins is very much in play but I think it will come to light as the weeks roll on here.

Not a fan of the Iowa State guard. He is in mold of big, plodding linemen we used to want. Then again, with Callahan here who knows if we go back to that.

I don't think Hosley lasts till the 3rd nor Irvin till the 4th but would do cartwheels if we drafted them there.

Love the 5th round pick. I'm getting a Leon Lett vibe from that kid.

Overall, if the off-season went down like this, I'd be pretty happy with it.

He's a big man but really does have a surprising athletic element to his game. Yeah I'm going to take heat for it but he reminds me a lot of Larry Allen not only in demeanor but in that he looks like a fat, lazy slob but when asked to move is actually very fluid.

As I said earlier, Hosley and Irvin are a bit lower then most have them ranked right now but unlike years past I'm playing it like the stock market and going with current value.

Good comparison on Hicks to Lett. Very similar type player.

SDogo, nice mock there. I like jenkins, but is he the heady, smart, disciplined guy the cowboys so desperately need in the secondary? We need get more intelligent guys on this team and here's to hoping that jenkins is that if he is indeed the guy at 14.

Supposedly Janoris Jenkins coasted this past year at North Alabama. Plus, he had the off-field issues at Florida, BUT if you can make peace with those and go back and watch his sophomore and junior years at Florida, he was as good a cornerback prospect as I've seen in years.

The red flags are significant though.

Indeed. They need real difference makers in those areas. Those two areas need a major injection of talent. Ben Grubbs is a Pro Bowl caliber guard, and he should have at least 4 prime years left, too. The comments that I've read from the Ravens' brass point to Grubbs hitting the market. Grubbs could want a deal similar to Marshall Yanda. (That benchmark would be much cheaper than Nicks like you stated.) That is just fine by me, because Dallas could sure use his Pro Bowl services. I bet Ray Rice begs to differ with Baltimore's management.

Grubbs would be a great fit at LG where he could pull and hit targets on the move, lead toss plays, and lead screens. Grubbs is an excellent fit for all of Dallas' base zone runs and counters. I really like his athletic ability and size. Grubbs has 34 inch arms, too. Put him next to Tyron's 37 inch arms and dominate. I'm on the Ben Grubbs band wagon.

Kelechi Osemele is a must get (imo) if Dallas doesn't draft a DeCastro or a Glenn. They need a young, big time talent like Osemele in that interior, too. It's been a long time since a very talented, big, athletic, and powerful guard was drafted by the Cowboys. They sure do need it now. Osemele would give Dallas a big, athletic, and powerful guard on that right side. He has LG ability according to Bunting. Osemele has 35 1/4 inch arms.

I like the slot WR from Arkansas, and I hope they draft a WR, too.

Nice information about Janoris Jenkins. I think Jenkins' Florida pedigree pretty much spoke for itself with the Gators. I think he's the best SEC CB in the draft and the best fit for Dallas. Jenkins was a more accomplished player than Kirkpatrick or Claiborne. I saw him take on A.J. Green and Julio Jones and win and win big. Alshon Jeffrey...ditto..

Free Agency
Resign:

Laurent Robinson | WR
Had Romo's trust more then any other WR. Dallas will have to pay.

Anthony Spencer | OLB
Not the sack artist we wanted but the staff loves him and his role is to often drop into coverage. Another victim of poor DB play as Rob Ryan could not dial up many of the packages he wanted.

Tony Fiametta | FB
Plain and simple the running game improved when he was on the field

Clifton Geathers | DE
Developmental project that is really coming along and the Cowboys like. Will be brought back.

Jeremy Parnell | OT
Cowboys love his versatility and athletic ability. Will likely win the swing OT position in camp.

Cut:
Terrence Newman | CB
He is done, the struggles are well documented. His money will be put to good use.

Kyle Kosier | OG
Sad to see him go, under rated OL but age and injury have caught up

David Buehler | K
It's finally time Jerry and Jason get over their man crush, we need the roster room

Kenyon Coleman | DE
Thanks for coming back for a tour, never delivered.

Signed:
Ben Grubbs | OG | Baltimore (27)
Option B to Carl Nicks, 1 year older and cheaper yet just as productive.

Tyvon Branch | SS | Oakland (25)
Not a name being tossed around alot but he's young and upcoming. Cowboys need someone who can call out coverages, Branch has excelled in that roll at Oakland. Great in the box Safety who can match up with TE's. Not going to pick off a lot of balls but will open up possibilities for Rob.

D'Qwell Jackson | ILB | Cleveland (28)
He won't be cheap but Jerry says he will spend his money and Jackson is one of the most under rated ILB's in the game. Rob has expressed how much he admires his play and with two staff members from the Browns who Jackson has stated he has admiration for perhaps it's a reunion in the making. Also give Bruce Carter another year to get his feet under him.

Shaun Hill | QB | SF (32)
Kitna is done, Cowboys need a vet QB. Hill has proven he can handle it short term.

Other Roster Moves:
Doug Free Moves from LT to RT
Jay Ratliff Moves from DT to DE

Draft:
RD 1 #14:

Janoris Jenkins | CB | North Alabama

73914_Senior_Bowl_Jenkins_Football.jpg

His troubles are well documented and the interview that never happened at the Senior Bowl was not by mistake. The Cowboys have their eye's on CB's and I would not be surprised to see 2 come out of this class. DeCastro remains my favorite pick at 14 but there is reason to believe he won't get past the Panthers.

RD 2 #45:
Kelechi Osemele | OG | Iowa St

4c8684e400088.image.jpg

Tenacity and attitude along with the skills to be a staple along the OL is exactly what needs injected into this OL and it's exactly what Kelechi brings. Don't let the fact that his name is not mentioned along with DeCastro and Glenn fool ya. He is every bit as ready to make a difference.

RD 3 #83
Jayron Hosley | CB | Virginia Tech

Bruce+Taylor+Jayron+Hosley+Virginia+Tech+v+kT4FTt2lTLEl.jpg

The 2nd shot at CB come sin Round 3 and while some will have issues with Dallas taking two CB's so early it seems not only Rob Ryan see's the issue needs fixed once and for all so does Jerry and Jason. Hosley can not only start at CB but fills a need in the return game.

RD 4 #114
Bruce Irvin | OLB | West Virginia

IRVIN-SACK2.jpg

For one reason or another Irvin's stock has taken a hit over the last few weeks but the fact remains he can get after the QB and the Cowboys need depth.

RD 5 #145
Akiem Hicks | NT | Regina

Hicks8-23-2010.jpg

One of the most athletic big guys in the draft and could be used a lot like Ryan used Shaun Rogers in Cleveland minus the bad attitude and tendency to get lazy.

RD 6 #176
Chase Ford | TE | Miami(FL)

Chase+Ford+Miami+v+Ohio+State+AFZ__ByQzMjl.jpg

It's a weak TE class and Ford may be picked higher then he warrants but he is one of the most atheltic and under rated TE's in this class. Bennett has seen his last days in Dallas and the Cowboys love to draft TE's but will they wait this long to grab one? Don't blink, he looks like a young Jason Witten on the field.

RD 6 #Comp
Devon Wylie | WR | Fresno St

img16960146.jpg

Yes my desire for a "Wes Welker" has reached an all time high and Fresno St is about to to produce another one. Outside of size, precise route running, big play ability, sure hands and return ability the only difference here is......well there is none. Expect this pick to stay a staple in my mock.

RD 7 #207
Foswhitt Whittaker | RB/KR/PR | Texas

feat_fozzy_baylor.jpg

What do you look for in a 7th round pick? Someone who can contribute in any aspect and make your team better. Whittaker who is an excellent returner, a willing coverage guy, has good hands, a leader, a locker room favorite, coaches dream and under rated back fits that mold.

Lineup Outlook:

OFFENSE: 24
QB: Tony Romo, Shaun Hill(FA), Stephen McGee
RB: Demarco Murray, Felix Jones, Foswhitt Whittaker(R)
FB: Tony Fiametta
WR: Laurent Robinson, Miles Austin, Dez Bryant, Andre Holmes, Devon Wylie(R)
TE: Jason Witten, John Phillips, Chase Ford(R)
OT: Tyron Smith, Doug Free, Jermey Parnell
OG: Benn Grubbs(FA), Kelechi Osemele(R), David Arkin, Bill Nagy
OC: Kevin Kowalski, Phil Costa

DEFENSE: 26
DE: Jay Ratliff, Marcus Spears, Clifton Geathers, Sean Lissemore, Jason Hatcher
NT: Akiem Hicks(R), Josh Brent
OLB: Demarcus Ware, Anthony Spencer, Bruce Irvin(R), Victor Butler, Alex Albright
ILB: Sean Lee, Bruce Carter, D'Qwell Jackson(FA), Orie Lemon
CB: Mike Jenkins, Orlando Scandrick, Janoris Jenkins(R), Jayron Hosley(R), Mario Butler
FS: Gerald Sensabaugh, Mana Silva, Danny McCray
SS: Tyvon Branch, Barry Church

ST: 3
K: Dan Bailey
P: Chris Jones
H: Shaun Hill

KR: Devon Wylie, Jayron Hosley, Felix Jones
PR: Devon Wylie, Dez Bryant

LS: L.P. Ladouceur

Grubbs/Osemele is a definite upgrade to the offensive line interior.

Then adding Branch, Jenkins, and Hosley definitely would uplift the secondary.

I like retaining Spencer, and would like Jackson added to the linebackers as well.

I like a projection at nose tackle, but I am wondering more about, say Michael Brockers in the 1st and signing a free agent cornerback?

Enjoyed your work a lot. Thanks.

That has to be the most well thought out and resonable draft to date...

well done sir

Yup.

Not a big fan of all the moves but this one at least passes the BS test that most fail miserably.

I like it, it's a realistic off season, and one that improves the OL and back end of the D. I would really like to get a DL like Campbell, a disruptive force that destroys the clean pocket. I know they are hard to find, but that would help this D out in a big way.

SDOGO... Im so glad you decided to start posting again and forgot about the idiots that didnt appreciate what you bring to the table.. During the offseason this is where I spend most of my time until the draft is over, the information and scouting history that you bring to the table is just tremendous.. Thanks for all the hard work you do and for sharing it with those of us who just think they know how to pick prospects.. lol....

Great offseason plan man.... And Im on board with Finnegan as long as he stays healthy... We need a veteran back there to help.
