This is supposed to prove what? That you can post a link filled with language that is not acceptable on this forum and that could easily get you a violation?

Nice.

did not realize that there was bad language on there. i figured we were all grown ups on here so the rule didn't even cross my mind.. but the content of the link was self explanatory. gideon is one of the most hated players in UT history.

Yeah. We are not all "Grown Ups", so to speak. That is why those rules are there. The link means nothing to me. Shaggybevo is not what I would consider the end all, be all, of Football but that too is OK. I don't share the same opinion of him as the overwhelming majority of fans apparently. It's OK. This mock was not meant to be the end all, be all either. It was just something I put together to have discussion over. I guess that was accomplished.

As I said earlier, it depends on how he runs. I think he will run well but we will see. I hope he does not because that will mean that he drops and I still like the player. I have watched him play a few times myself. The guy is big and physical. He gets very good bump off the line. He tackles well, he is excellent off the corner blitz and he has excellent football knowledge. If he runs well, he will be a 1st round pick.

We can agree to disagree. I've watched 90% of the games he played, he is not a 1st round pick. And he will not run a fast 40 time.

Again, great kid, and would take him later in the draft.

FYI, I'm not quoting a draft profile, so I can't tell you about his football knowledge.

if JJ takes stephon gilmore at 14 he is ready for the knackers yard. That would be appalling.
Now thats not to say i dont like the kid, he's a good tough cb but at 14 no way in hell for me..........

+1 and I'm a Gamecock fan

I wouldn't take Gilmore that high. He is a solid CB, but not spectacular. Use that spot on a spectacular CB. Gilmore is projected as a late 1st rounder and will more than likely drop in the mid second by draft day.

SEC fan here, went to South Carolina, so pretty much every game. I wouldn't take him the first either.

My wife is an Alum and we watch most of the games on TV and make it down for a game or two each year.

This is completely acceptable. I have not watched Gilmore in every game but I can say that I've watched him in a few games over his career. I do see positives to his game. The thing I like about him, his size, long arms, his ability to be physical off the LOS, his tackling ability, which BTW, is a real issue in our secondary right now, his ability to lower his hips, turn and run (often not common in a CB his size) his extensive starting experience in college, his ability to play either bump and run man or zone, the competition he's played against but mostly, his ability to get close to a wide receiver and not allow him to get off. A lot of the same kinds of things you describe are a lot of the same things that folks said were wrong with other big CBs. For example, Bobby Taylor in Buddy Ryan's Philly teams or an Anthoney Henry who played for us previously.

The negatives on this player are his lack of a high end gear. He does not have that other gear he can find to close distance against very fast players. I am not certain how good his agility will time. I would like to see how he catches the ball a little better. These are things that would make him a top 5 pick, if they were present. Of course, he would then be out of our reach and not a reasonable option at 14.

I don't expect this player to be Deion. What I hope is that he is Eric Allen or Bobby Taylor in a bump and run type scheme. If he can be that, then we have two CBs, in Jenkins and this kid, that would allow us to actually play that very tight, physical coverage that jams the WRs at the LOS calls for in your jock man for 15 yards or so. If we can get the pass rush together, then those big CBs can employee that defensive style and be effective. That is exactly how Philly did it and exactly how they created so many TOs. In Gilmore, I'm looking for a certain type of player. Not necessarily Revis, per say. I do acknowledge that Gilmore might not be that guy. It will depend on how his skills test but if he is, then I do believe that he is worth 14. If he tests well, he won't be there in the 2nd. There are a few other CBs I like in this draft but there are a lot of Guards I like in this draft. I love Cordy Glenn out of Georgia. Zeitler out of Wisconsin will probably end up grading out better then Moffet. Even thou a lot of people may not like D2 guys, I like Silatolu better then probably anybody in this draft at Guard, including DeCosta. If what I hear about his strength and quickness is true, there will be people comparing him to Larry Allen.

A lot will depend on how he tests. I understand what you are saying but if he does test well, then he becomes a very realistic pick for us IMO. A lot will change between then and now. That's what's fun about the draft.

Alshon Jeffrey and Gilmore declared today.

Gilmore has great hands, and played a few snaps at QB this year and actually attempted a pass or two. He is a great athlete and played QB in high school. He has good feet.

He is not really a press man corner or at least he was not asked to play this technique much at SC. He played mostly off man, and press bail. SC's plays a lot of zone because they could get pressure with four players. The largest problem with Gilmore, he was always a step late for the pass breakup. He could see the play, located the ball but would not quite get their.

Again, I really like him. He was the 1st of four Mr. Football for the state of SC that stayed at home to play for the Gamecocks. I've not heard one negative word about him. I like him in the 2nd round, but I would not think he warrants the 14th pick in this draft.

If I had to list the CBs to come out of SC I would place them in this order based on their college performance:
1. Duante Robinson
2. Sheldon Brown
3. Jonathan Joseph
4. Stephon Gilmore
5. Chris Culliver (was a better FS than CB)
5. Fred Benett
6. Captian Munnerlyn (very fast, great KO returner, could not cover)

Just my .02 on Gamecock football.

FYI, I hope someone takes him in the 1st, he is an absolute great kid. I could see some zone based team reach for him in the bottom of the 1st round.

I will say, the look at Nicks in FA and the Bequette pick are my favs here. We did draft 2 guards last year, and getting Nicks would allow them to develop more along with another guard this year.

Bequette is kinda a tweeter for a 3-4, he could grow into a DE or be a SOLB, and think he would be a great pick if available later in the draft.

I left Terry Cousins and Andre Goodman off the list by oversight. I would place Cousins at 2 and Goodman ahead of Jonathan Joseph.
