According to Jack Arute and Paul Finebaum's radio programs, an announcement is coming in the coming weeks to months of a partnership between the SEC and ESPN that will be worth a billion dollars a year ON TOP of the new television contract expected to increase each's schools annual revenue by over $8 million. It will be the largest per year payout of any contract in the history of television.

After ESPN's cut and other expenses, it is expected to payout nearly $40 million per year per school. Coupled with the new television contract, and each school in the SEC will be pulling down between $60 and $70 million per year in television revenue. :money:

I don't care about the money, I only want to see DirecTV carry it the way they carry the other conference networks. Texas can keep it's Longhorn Network with limited coverage, this is the first positive news I have seen from the move to the SEC.

yeah. A lot of that money is pie in the sky- if they think revenues are going to increase that much they are nuts.

I actually hope they are real. If these numbers are real, this is a very good indicator of what the Big 12 will get if they bring in more high value programs. This is what we can expect to see if the Big 12 brings in programs like ND, FSU, VaTech etc. This is a huge incentive for teams to join the Big 12.

Big 12 has a deal with FOX and games will be shown there

Earlier this week, the Sports Business Journal reported that the Big 12's television deal with Fox would go from $19.5 million annually to somewhere between $60-70 million annually.

Now, sources indicated to the publication that the deal could be worth $90 million annually, a 13-year deal worth $1.1 billion total. A reporter from Bloomberg television tweeted the same thing on Wednesday afternoon, citing a person familiar with the negotiations.

It was inevitable, surprised it is happening this quickly. Sounds like 2013 or 2014 will be the launch.

The amount of money is just stupid, though. You're going to have some serious athletic facility improvements across the board in the SEC. Hell, Vanderbilt will be making more per year than any non-SEC school.

i only dont believe those numbers because the whole draw of the SEC is football, they are average at best overall at the other two major sports. so why would they get this much money for a network that wouldnt show any football games outside of games like bama vs north texas? i guess coaches shows and that stuff could fill it up, but i dont know about 70 million a YEAR

VaTech aka VPI will wind up in the SEC, I also think NCST will go to the SEC.

Big 12 will wind up with FSU, Clemson, ND and Louisville not sure after that as I have heard other names.

The SEC is the best baseball conference in America as well, but more importantly SEC baseball is by far the most popular. There's a ton of money to be made in baseball on such a network.

i have no idea about baseball, and thats the problem, its the third most popular sport in college, but its not gonna get them 70 million per team. basketball, its basically kentucky, sometimes florida, and thats about it. you going to get 70 million a year per team for kentucky to take on mississippi state?

Baseball is almost as popular as basketball in the SEC, it's huge.

And I think you're underestimating the types of games such a network would draw. This isnt going to be like the LHN, this will be picked up by most cable providers and over time more and more games will be shown, including marquee basketball and football games. I could see a deal being cut as part of this with CBS and ESPN to show one or two big games a year.
