I'm selling some old antique silverware and later today a guy is coming to take a look at it. I really didn't give it much thought but my girlfriend is starting to get really paranoid about it. All in all it's 94 pieces and the average value seems to be around 180$ per piece so it might attract the wrong kinds of people.

How should i go about doing this without making it feel like a drug deal out of a movie? I dug up some info on the guy and he seems legit, he runs an antique store in a town an hour away from where i live, but the way he insisted on coming here to see it has made my girlfriend very nervous.
Is she just being paranoid or should i take some precautions here, if so what?

Tell the buyer you want to meet in front of the local police station and see if he is still willing to show up. :D :D

From his perspective: If you brought the silver to his shop he would have no idea if it was stolen or not. You're not likely to let him come to your house and know where you live if you stole the silver. Just a thought.

I personally would invite 2-3 guys over and have them watch TV while he takes a look at it. Strength in numbers. I am sure you have pictures of it all so if something were to happen you could back it up if say he we to rob you. Alternatively you could pack some heat :)

This is what I would do

It will work better with three guys, but make sure they're wearing sunglasses and standing behind you starng intently without speaking at the buyer as you show the silver

It is also helpful to have a 4th guy standing off away from the rest of the group, also with sunglasses and staring at the buyer silently, but while swinging a bat with his right hand causing it to make a loud pop as it strikes the palm of his left hand.

Then slam the door behind him and laugh :laugh1:

Just make sure Ching Ching is there.

You know...

Ching.....Ching

Dude was so old and sick he could barely lift the chest it was inn and he tried to low ball me with a 1500$ offer the price in Kilos for silver, i politely told time to **** off

I think in general people are a little on the paranoid side. I've done business with strangers and bought and sold things just fine over commonly used sites like Craigslist and Ebay. I even bought something from a CZ member and that experience was great.

All in all, people are good. But I definitely get what you're saying.
