Senior Bowl Stock Watch
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Scott Wright
President, NFL Draft Countdown

Every year there are players who boost their stock at the Senior Bowl and make themselves a lot of money while there are also those who fail to impress. Here is a look at the players who helped and hurt themselves the most throughout the week:

Stock Up
1. Gabe Watson, DT, Michigan
Was a force in the middle and often times dominant all week long.
2. Manny Lawson, DE, North Carolina St.
Showed freakish athleticism and really made scouts take notice.
3. Jonathan Scott, OT, Texas
Outplayed more highly touted teammates like Winston and McNeill.
4. Tye Hill, CB, Clemson
Was consistently the best defensive back in attendance this week.
5. Dominique Byrd, TE, USC
Showed the ability to be an impact player in the passing game.
6. Daniel Bullocks, S, Nebraska
Every time you turned around this guy had the ball in his hands.
7. Maurice Stovall, WR, Notre Dame
Took advantage of every opportunity he got and looked great all week.
8. Sinorice Moss, WR, Miami (FL)
Simply looked to be on a different level in terms of speed and quickness.
9. Jay Cutler, QB, Vanderbilt
A little inconsistent early but showed flashes of brilliance at times.
10. DeAngelo Williams, RB, Memphis
A star on and off the field who now looks like a Top 10 overall pick.
11. D'Brickashaw Ferguson, OT, Virginia
Amazing pass blocker who solidified himself as a Top 5 overall selection.
12. Brodie Croyle, QB, Alabama
After a good week he is now possibly the #3 senior signal caller in the draft.
13. Chad Greenway, OLB, Iowa
Play on the field and intangibles make him the #2 linebacker in the draft.
14. Brodrick Bunkley, DT, Florida St.
Got his weight up and was very disruptive in practices early in the week.
15. Daryn Colledge, OT, Boise St.
Showed quick feet and held some top defensive ends at bay in the practices.
16. Charlie Whitehurst, QB, Clemson
Looked excellent early in the week and then played great in the game.
17. Pat Watkins, S, Florida St.
Physically impressive and also looked very good back in coverage.
18. Jerious Norwood, RB, Mississippi St.
The second best runner here who looked very quick and explosive.

Stock Down
1. Hank Baskett, WR, New Mexico
Ran poor routes, dropped balls and did little right this week.
2. Anwar Phillips, CB, Penn St.
Struggled and didn't look good at all but he did show up in the game.
3. Mathias Kiwanuka, DE, Boston College
Lacks moves and D'Brickashaw Ferguson dominated him until he got hurt.
4. Michael Robinson, QB, Penn St.
Any chance he might have had of playing quarterback is now gone.
5. Darryl Tapp, DE, Virginia Tech
Was neutralized as a pass rusher and his lack of size really showed.
6. Travis Wilson, WR, Oklahoma
Came in 2 inches shorter than he was listed and stuggled in practice.
7. Cody Douglas, OG, Tennessee
Was routinely beaten all week and looked out of place on the line.
8. D.J. Shockley, QB, Georgia
Did not give any indication he could be more than a backup as a pro.
9. Elvis Dumervil, DE, Louisville
Measured in at only 5-11 and did not stand out in the practices.
10. Jonathan Lewis, DT, Virginia Tech
Got hurt on the first day and other DT's probably passed him up.

Tapp looked great to me. I thought he was the best pass rusher on the field yesterday.
Dumervil disappointed me. I really thought he would be something special, with his 20 sacks and all last season.
But he looked slow and powerless up against the stronger compeition.
The only tackles that stood out for me is Ferguson (except for him getting beaten by Mark Anderson) and Daryn Colledge.

Nors I may bust your balls at times... OK most of the time but I do appreciate the amount of time you put into things like this. For that effort you deserve an "Atta boy".

Just one problem with this list. I'm glad most of the guys on his list had a good week of practice but give me football players. I want the guys that show up on game day. Phillips and Tapp both played great games.

These are the type of guys that slip to teams like the patriots who scoop them up and watch them become pro bowlers. I'm sick of this workout and practice crap. the best players are the one's who show up on game day. I like to call them football players.

Never an issue with me. Heck - another Noreaster Snow belt on the way. Hope all is well at the Arctic line.

Draft day 3 months and counting, just starting to dig in!

I'm thinking Colledge may go in the 2nd. He showed that he can handle fast or strong rushers.

me too, but then again, there are alot of OTs in this draft, so he could fall to us in the 3rd

Wasn't suprised when Watson made him look silly. He should have stayed in school.

If he slips to us in the 3rd, it's an automatic no brainer in my book.

Speed rushers do not bother this guy, his feet are quick and all he needs is more strenght (not hard to get, but quick feet are extremely hard to conquer)

I don't know what game Scott was watching, but the in the game I watched, Darryl Tapp was freaking unstoppable. Anyone who taped the game can go back & zero in on Tapp, and see that the guy has 3-4 different pass rush moves. He blew past Winston & Scott all game long! The sack that Hali got in the second half, he was totally unblocked or accounted for. Tapp had Scott "on him", and got there a fraction of a second after Hali. If Hali hadn't gotten the sack, Tapp would have. That would have been his THIRD sack of the game. Yeah, his lack of size really showed up.

When asked why he came down to play in the Senior Bowl, D'Brickashaw Ferguson said he wanted to go against the "best of the best". Guess who was the first person he named as the "best of the best"? You got it-Darryl Tapp. There's a good reason for that. Tapp was the only DE that challenged Ferguson in practice. He also gave D'Brick fits in their game against each other this year. I usually respect Scott Wright's opinion, but he really blew this one.

From time to time, I give ol' Nors a bunch of crap, when he gets "playful"...

Fairness demands that I admit that he offers a lot when it comes to draft talk... I don't always agree with him, but I always know he knows what he's talking about, that he's done his research...

This just goes to show that every person has their own opinion. The Tapp information is completely opposite of some other things I have read and seen. Travis Wilson is another guy he has listed as hurting his cause, but I read several other places that he really helped himself. On and on it goes...

In the end, like NFL teams and scouts, certain players will make more of a positive impression on one individual than another.
