Okay, to be perfectly honest, I posted this just for the article's title.

Seven inches is enough, RIM tells Jobs

CANADA'S Research In Motion has fired back at Apple's Steve Jobs over his claims that the iPhone is outselling the Blackberry and that 7-inch tablet computers have no future.

"We think many customers are getting tired of being told what to think by Apple," RIM co-chief executive Jim Balsillie said in a blog post responding to the comments made on Monday by Jobs.

Jobs, speaking to financial analysts during a conference call, dismissed 7-inch tablets as "tweeners" saying they were "too big to compete with a smartphone and too small to compete with an iPad".

He suggested makers of 7-inch screens "include sandpaper so users can sand down their fingers" to be able to tap onscreen keys.

Addressing concerns that the iPad had missed it 4.8 million unit target by nearly 20 per cent, selling 4.1 million units, Jobs seemed to lay the blame at the feet of rival tablet makers for not quickly bringing worthy products to markets.

The new smaller Kindle was accepted to rave reviews. I think Jobs has this wrong. I think the iPad is slightly too big if used solely as a portable device. (ie, using it on the go, rather than just around the office/house) While it's portable, it's not as portable as it could be and it's heavier than it should be.

Other than that, it's a nice device.

I've never used a 7" device (that's what she said). I wonder why I'd ever use that small of a device over my iPhone. If these types of devices are meant to bridge the gap between laptop and smartphone, doesn't seem like 7" is going to do the job (that's what she said).

If you need highly portable travel laptop then use one. It will be easier to type on and more functional. If you just need something to check email and browse the web, then get one these pad type devices. To surf the web, check email, and read books, you don't need a laptop size display.

Surfing the web makes a whole lot more since on a 7" device than a 4" device. A full laptop size display isn't necessary for just browsing and general email. (especially with the added weight) Using a phone is good in a pitch to look up stuff while you are out like addresses, movie times, directions, etc.

Not really, no, considering the ease with which I can carry the 4" device (i.e., in my pocket) (that's what she said). My point is, if you're going with a 7" or a 10", you have to carry it separately -- in a bag or something (that's what she said). So if you're going that extra step of carrying something else entirely, why not go with the slightly bigger version (that's what she said)? You could never really describe the iPad as being too bulky, that's for sure.

10" isn't anywhere near a full laptop size display.

Just know, the only reason why smartphone's are getting bigger is because of the pc-to-mobile transition.

Its the last step before they go REAL SMALL AGAIN
THEN we start to PLUG IN. Chip in the head. ;)
