You can tear an ACL completely, and walk fine on it with minimal swelling and pain. If it is a complete tear.

If they think he tore it, he probably tore it. The 2 special tests that check for ACL ruptures are extremely obvious and specific for a tear, I assure you.

It is a weird knee injury, if serious. Too much lateral instability, but he was walking and if in pain, hiding it well.
