Late in the game the Eagles conceded a TD in the hopes of getting the ball back with more time. Jerick McKinnon of the Chiefs realized that he needed to NOT score a TD and took a knee on the one. This allowed the Chiefs to effectively kill the clock.

Now, of course, I'm a jaded Cowboys fans, so jaded that I have doubts that had it been a Cowboys player in that same situation that they would know what to do there. I can see whoever just waltzing right into the endzone, high stepping and high fiving.

I am this cynical because of multiple instances of blowing situational football just this season by the Dallas Cowboys, and a historic pattern of this behavior since the Garrett era began.

Hopefully this gets corrected because it has been perhaps the top reason the team lost games in 2022.

I think Pollard or Zeke would have done the same thing. That Chiefs player almost went in. It wasn't until he figured out that the D had given him the TD that the light went on. Good for him that the light went on when it did.

The Cowboys arent dumb they wouldve handled it the same way

every team has an instance of a hick up during the season where situational football is failed..Bill Belichek is a mastermind of situational football yet the patriots had the WORST moment of failing it during the season

step back man....stop thinking dallas cant do things like this because of a mistake here and there they went 12-5 for a reason

BINGO !!!!!!!!!!
Our Football team has the football IQ of a turnip!
Especially our QB.
Look at the Jax game last year.
We need a few yards for a First Down.
We throw a 50 yard bomb.

Fantastic post. Collective football IQ regarding situational awareness is a major team flaw. Countless head scratching games where you say to yourself just "dumb, dumb, dumb".

From the Head Coach to the QB to all players and staff in between.
Attention to the details can't be stressed enough.

I share your cynicism and believe your OP one hundred percent as well.

Your doubts are well founded. Did you watch the final minutes of the last Cowboys/Eagles game? We all saw how inept they were with situational awareness. To the point where it almost cost us that game.

Dak running out of bounds. Dak taking a Sack when the play started with 2:01 left in the game. Then trying to draw the Eagles off sides with a 4th and goal. One dumb move after another. Both coach and quarterback got brain freeze in the final minutes.

Good post and an understandable thought. It’s coaching so I think it’s a matter of if you think McCarthy and Moore would have known. I’m sure in the Chiefs huddle they probably said multiple times to get down in bounds and short of the end zone.

If Dak was stressing the same message in his huddle, I’m sure our RBs would get down as well.

I cannot comprehend how anyone can say that we are a smart team. We've shown the direct opposite many times.

You know Zeke is running that ball in. He's not passing on a TD celebration in the super bowl. .......... hypothetically.

Total Veteran move by McKinnon. If the Chiefs reminded him not do so. Kudos. If not, even more respect for the vet.

Anyone consider that Andy told them to not score and go down at the 1 yard line. So was it the player being so smart he did it on his own, or was it planned.

Anyone thinking our players are so dumb they would score are just not football smart. Or just the "dislike our team and players" as usual.
If Zeke or Pollard was told to go down they would. If not told, then 99.9% of any player on any teams takes the score.

The Divisional game proved the Cowboys are not savvy to situational football.

It’s a bit of a reach, but I’m sure it stems from frustration over some things that have gone on around here over the last couple of decades…a lot of which has been forgotten.

Really, it’s no secret that the quality of coaches in Dallas is sacrificed because of Jerry and wanting to be in the middle of everything, and carry on his little charade of being the guy who did it all on his own.
