That is probably the smart thing to do. I would target 8 teams in the east and 8 in the west with a 9 game schedule so you cross the country once each football season.

yeah, CUSA was better in hoops when they have Louisville and Cincy....and when Houston was decent.
It's really weak now.

I think for football, they'll may merge with the MWC, send UTEP to the West Division and try to add Temple (allsports) in the East Division. Then they'll submit a request for BCS consideration for the winner of the 18 team league.

Basically, the Big east has lost Va tech, Miami, Boston College, Pitt, Syracuse, and WVU. Those were the reason why they had a BCS tie-in anyway. So I don't see why, just b/c they have the BE name, they should get a BCS auto bid over some of the non-Qs.

Why would anybody accept a deal where Boise St. Plays Football in the Big East but all other sports in another conference? That would be stupid. Boise is very isolated. It would be a huge expense to pitch in and support all of their other sports activities when you are not getting any benefit from their Football program?

I must be missing something here. Perhaps I don't understand the deal completely.

They are only isolated when it comes to large programs. They are relatively close to several schools and could go back to the Big Sky conference.

Boise is in a pickle because of the $2000 stipend rule. With the lousy MWC TV deal, it would be very expensive for Boise to pay the extra 2000 to all of their athletes without the extra funds the Big East would provide. Coach Peterson has stated that the football program absolutely has to offer the 2000 or it stands no chance of competing in the future, so the Big East seems like a no-brainer, BUT, all of the other sports also have to get the 2000, so they need to find a conference that will allow Boise to pay their olympic sports the stipend. The small conferences like the Big Sky and the WAC probably won't, as they can't afford it themselves. I think the best bet may be the WCC. Those small, private universities, besides BYU, which is a huge, private university may have the money to do so. I am sure BYU will want to offer the 2000 to its football and basketball programs, so they will be in favor of it.

How I understand it is that it would Boise State's athletic budget to with what they please. So as before, the football program can still fund the other other sports, they just won't be in the same conference.
And of course, Boise's other sports not being in the Big East makes much more sense travel wise....whereas in football, there are only 6 or so way games and it would be sefl funded without problems.
I'm sure I must be missing something.

Hey, it isn't what it used to be, but it is better than C-USA by a long shot. I am pretty stoked that UCF is heading to the Big East!

How does this make sense? Are you saying that Boise St. Football revenue would remain in the conference that is funding all the rest of their sports? I mean, lets face it, Boise isn't making money on any of their other sports so they are basically a drain on any conference they are affiliated with, outside of Football. I don't understand how Boise could be supported by any other conference unless they contribute in the way of Football Revenue.

That's kinda how I feel about UH. It's not C-USA.

While I hope the Big East can't maintain it's BCS standing, I just appreciate the better competition it brings. It will surely help recruiting, that's for sure.

Boise State could sign an agreement to play a certain number of football games against the conference to help them with revenue.

That doesn't really help though. In order for it to be helpful, it would really have to be a game that was picked up as a national game. Besides, the Big East would not allow that for any extended period of time and eventually, that sort of arrangement would probably hurt Boise in the BCS which, in turn, would hurt the Big East as a whole.

If all of Boise's other sports are in the MWC, for example, then Boise will not receive MWC football revenue. I know you understand that. Boise would have to fund all of it's MWC teams out of it's athletic budget--most of which will be supplied by Boise (and Big East) football revenue.

I guess the MWC could complain that BSU's revenue stream is now stronger and would help it's non-football programs more than it should. But disparities in revenue streams at the conference level is the norm, not the exception.

In the end, I would not be surprised if BSU pays an annual fee to the non-footabll conference top allow it's teams to play there. The Big East would get it's normal football split (from Bowls and TV).
