So you want a day off. Let's take a look at what you are asking for. There are 365 days per year available for work. There are 52 weeks per year in which you already have 2 days off per week, leaving 261 days available for work. Since you spend 16 hours each day away fron work, you have used up 170 days, leaving only 91 days available.

You spend 30 minutes each day on coffee break which counts for 23 days each year, leaving only 68 days available. With a 1 hour lunch each day, you used up another 46 days, leaving only 22 days available for work. You normally spend 2 days per year on sick leave. This leaves you only 20 days per year available for work.

We are off 5 holidays per year, so your available working time is down to 15 days. We generously give 14 days vacation per year which leaves only 1 day available for work and I'll be darned if you are going to take that day off!

So there you have it. You thought you worked 8 hours a day? It turns out you only work 24 hours a year, you lazy SOB!

23 days is 552 hours, it would take 1,104 coffee breaks to equal 23 days which means at 1 per day it would take 1104 days to get 23 days worth of coffee breaks

I have seen similar version of this but unfortunately here in California employers are not required to give employees lunch breaks. The CA Supreme Court voted against giving mandatory lunch breaks to employees today.

If I work an eight hour day it feels like a vacation. Before April I had only six days off all year.

I do shift work and have 4 10 hour days and a 3 day weekend every weekend. I couldn't go back to a 5 day work week.

agreed, the math is off here. It's only 5.4 days. Additionally, I thought people worked 9 hours (with 1 hour lunch break) to equal 8 hours of work a day.

If you are suppose to work 40 hours a week, I don't see where this dude got to the conclusion he did.

Let's say you work 50 weeks (2 weeks vacation) - 5 federal holidays - 2 sick days - 100 weekend days = 350 - 102 = 248 of days you go to work

248 - (16*248/24) = 165 days = 83 days (16 hours a day you are at home/in transit/not at work on days you go to work)

So you are at work 83 days a year. If you added in 1.5 hours for break/lunch, then that is 83 - (1.5*248/24) = 67.5 days.

Doing the math backwards, out of 8 hours a day, you only work 6.5 hours

6.5*248 / 24 = 67.2 ish days

That is an awesome schedule. The last time I had 10 hours days, we were working six days a week.

Damn glad I don't work in that field anymore!

It's a joke, people.

He keeps reducing the day count with each exemption.

But then when he talks about each other bit they get off he discounts from 365 days per year but then counts against the last calculated work day total.

An easy way to think about it is most people work 50 weeks per year for 40 hours per week (to make calcs easy) or 2000 hours per year. If one were to count days as 24 hours it works out to about 83.3 24-hour days.

Whether the math is right or not, the idea that people are super-hard workers as a whole is largely a myth.

Sure there are some who put in a legit 40+ hrs a week, but generally speaking, even when people are at work, I don't think they're "working"

Wrong. Please get the facts right. The CA SC voted against forcing employers to make sure an employee takes the lunch break. Offering one is still required.
