Since I’ve been a Cowboys fan a really long time, I enjoy looking at the history of the series with a team on our schedule. New Orleans is not that far from Dallas so if there is ever a realignment of divisions, it would make some sense to put Dallas and NO together. That is not likely to happen anytime soon I’m sure.

Here‘s some basic history between these two teams:
ALL TIME RECORD VS SAINTS: Cowboys lead all time series 18-13.
  • This has been a streaky series. Cowboys won the first 7 games and the saints won 6 in a row in the early 2000s.
  • Since 1998, the saints are 8-4 against Dallas.
  • The Saints were an NFL expansion team that entered the league in 1967, only 7 years after the Cowboys entrance in 1960.
  • The Cowboys won the first Cowboys-Saints matchup 14-10 on Oct. 15, 1967, played at the Cotton Bowl.
  • The Cowboys won the last matchup in 2021 played in NO, 27-17.
  • The Saints first beat the Cowboys in 1971 in a huge upset 24-14, the year the Cowboys won their first SB. The QB for the Saints that day was the great Archie Manning who scored two running TDs. Roger Staubach threw 2 TDs that day, one to HOFer Bob Hayes.
  • The Saints original stadium was the old Tulane Stadium which they shared with the Tulane University team.
  • Interestingly, the Cowboys first and second SB wins were both in New Orleans. SB VI was won in Tulane Stadium and SB XII was won the in the new (at the time) Superdome.
  • The worst loss we ever had to the Saints was in Jimmy’s first season on the opening game in 1989. The Cowboys were shutout 28-0 in the first of 15 losses that really rough year.
SOME OTHER FUN TIDBITS
  • Former Saints HC Sean Payton served on Bill Parcells staff for 3 seasons, 2003-2005 as Assistant HC and QBs coach.
  • Probably the best former Saints player who also played for Dallas was the great DL Leroi Glover, who played here 4 seasons after logging 5 seasons for the Saints.
  • Three former Cowboys QBs also once played for the Saints: Wade Wilson, Steve Walsh and Andy Dalton.
  • Surprisingly, the Cowboys and the Saints have never played each other in the playoffs.
Should be a fun game Sunday and I expect the Cowboys to ultimately prevail.
Any other Cowboys-Saints history to share?

It’s still there. It was a scouting report on the saints. It included some of the same info but it’s actually different.

Hence my confusion I thought maybe it got lost or something, but I remember when it seemed almost the same...

Well you're probably right, it's always been strange to see the Cowboys in the division that they're in when they're not in the east, but I believe that the Cowboys would have been a less successful less dynamic marketing giant , that they are they would have already been in one of the realignments...

too much history to move them anytime soon.

I was at that 1989 debut of Jethro/ Jimmy era in New Orleans which was inaugural Dallas Cowboys Travel Club venture.

Their fans laughed us out the stadium. Saints fans are brutal and never attended a game there again.

But it was the beginning of 5 glorious Years traveling to many road games while still attending home games with season tickets.

That first year in 1989 attended 12 games total and didn’t see us win one . How’s that for a Diehard fan . Lol

The Cowboys still have the Travel Club

My eternal hope is that matchup never happens. And an additional hope Dallas has homefield advantage if it did happen.

Interestingly enough, I have only gone to the Superdome for a handful of Cowboys/Saints games. And I live here in Louisiana. Unfortunately, I have attended more games there with Dallas losing than winning.

Like anywhere else, home fans can needle the heck out of visiting fans after a home team win. New Orleans based fans are not necessarily malicious after wins but they have a unique Cajun/Creole sassy way of taunting though. It has really grinded my gears as my wife and I walk back to our nearby hotel, lol.

Yea, Saints fans were almost as bad as some of our divisional rivals.

Egirls the worst by far, then 49ers but Saints rank up there with NY and Wash. Texan fans worse than Oiler fans.

Classiest fans in the league are in Green Bay. Charger fans in SD were pretty laid back.

This is just a generalization from my personal experience and interactions. New Orleans' fans love to taunt but not fight after Saints wins. A solid segment of divisional teams' fans love to taunt and fight after their teams win, with Eagles' fans being much more inclined to throw down than Giants and Washington fans.

The 2009 game against the 13-0 Saints was one of my favorite games to watch, ever. Hated that team.
I was at that game as well.

Wade really had that defense (Parcells’ personnel plus Spencer) playing at a high level at that time, and I thought they could finally ride some late season momentum into a run.

Took myself out to Minnesota for more in person humiliation, and they weren’t shy dishing it out.
