To me, here are some big questions not related to Dak Prescott that need to be answered this offseason. Am I missing anything else?

1. What to do with Tyron Smith. The younger Smith is likely the LT going forward and I don't see Dallas letting Terence Steele walk as a restricted FA. But Steele is coming off an ACL so do they keep Tyron?
2. Franchising Tony Pollard was a no-brainer before he broke his leg last night. Now his medicals need to weigh into any decision.
3. Leighton Vander Esch is a free agent. He's a popular whipping boy here but while everyone was busy hating they missed the fact he was one of the best middle linebackers in the NFL this season.
4. Is Jake Ferguson ready to replace Dalton Schultz, who will almost certainly price his way out of town?
5. Areas where new starters may be needed: WR 2 opposite Lamb (Gallup was not the same coming off the knee) and CB 2 opposite Diggs where it was a mess after Anthony Brown got hurt.
6. Playmaking DT's needed.
7. Kicker likely needed even though Maher's PAT fiasco was probably a bit overplayed by the media.

1. Keep Tyron but don’t count on him…improving depth on line is a must.

2. Tag Wilson and hope Tony’s injury keeps him from getting a big offer.

3. Re-sign LVE. He was our third best player on defense this season behind Micah and Wilson.

4. Jake is ready…bye bye Schultz

5. Draft a CB in round 1 and sign a WR in free agency.

6. I think we’re ok at DT but more depth can’t hurt. Need to keep Hankins.

7. Maher gets the boot

once again our OL got man handled and that why we lost IMO., sure Dak INTs didn't help but qbs all of them tend to try and make plays when they feel that all there is on offense is try and make plays that might not be there..not letting dak completely off the hook but our offense against the rams 18, 21 9ers, and now this 9ers game our OL did NOT show up with a run game.. each loss ,no run game and very little time to throw.. its pretty obvious thats the bigger issue.

need more physical LG and either Steele back or new RT.. Tyron and Peters are older and cannot be counted on but more for depth swing guys next season.

good list i concur but 7 Maher no boot just let him compete in TC his RS says hes deserves chance to at least compete for it.
add in another great draft used maybe a mid-round RB with Malik and hopefully Pollard with Zeke gone 1-3rd rounds OL, LB or CB..

Dont agree...I posted this in another thread.

Replying to Pollard injury being bad luck for us...

That and Maher picking a bad time to get the yips.

If it was a regular Maher -before the half we might have went for a FG instead of forcing it with Dak.

Same thing in the second half - when we got that intention delay of game to punt - with the old Maher we might have tried that 57 yard FG.

And once Pollard went out, SF knew we couldn't run so they just teed off.

Yes Dak wasn't all that but we might not have needed Dak as much if we had a kicker and Pollard to keep the D honest.

1. Tyron is cheap worked into the cap, keep him
2. Agree - but he will likely take a long-term deal now at a team-friendly price...Dallas takes care of it's drafted players
3. Leighton needs to be re-signed so we can address the LB position late in the draft - very late
4. Something needs to change, even though Dalton is Dak's best target maybe we need to let him leave so Dak can gain chemistry outside of him - plus his game in TB increased his price
5. Draft CB/WR/DT/RLT
6. Need 2 studs in the draft out of DT/CB/WR - if Quinn stays draft the defense and sign a WR FA
7. Looking for a new kicker is a must

Think we need another big fat guy in the middle to spell Hankins at least someone who can come in and not have such a massive drop off.

Trade Tyron if you could get some good value. Ask Peters to come back until Steele gets healthy. Trade Diggs if I could get a top 20 1st round pick. Get rid of Zeke and don't resign Pollard now with the injury unless he is a bargain. Can't pay Shultz and I would take LVE if it is a very reasonable deal. Don't see any FA WR's that I would spend money on so look to the draft. Go after D Payne and Marcus Peters and don't spend money on RB or TE. Mini rebuild and draft a QB.

Lots of possibilities and good points for consideration. As long as everyone understands these changes will mean nothing toward the ultimate goal as long as #4 is under center.

Now if you view them as getting ready for 2024 and a new QB, then you are on the right track.

I'll say this again. Our offense is missing a game changing TE that can make something happen like Kittle did. A good TE is a offense and QB's best friend. Schultz is too soft and a jag. He can go. I hope we don't resign him.

  • 1. What to do with Tyron Smith. The younger Smith is likely the LT going forward and I don't see Dallas letting Terence Steele walk as a restricted FA. But Steele is coming off an ACL so do they keep Tyron?
    • It's an easy decision to keep Tyron due to Steele's injury. Without Steele's injury, I think they would have cut him.

  • 2. Franchising Tony Pollard was a no-brainer before he broke his leg last night. Now his medicals need to weigh into any decision.
    • It didn't appear to be a Dak type extreme break. He'll likely be good to go in 4 months unless there was ligament damage.

  • 3. Leighton Vander Esch is a free agent. He's a popular whipping boy here but while everyone was busy hating they missed the fact he was one of the best middle linebackers in the NFL this season.
    • They'll try to re-sign him. I think his injury history (neck) will somewhat limit his market value.

  • 4. Is Jake Ferguson ready to replace Dalton Schultz, who will almost certainly price his way out of town?
    • Yes. Ferguson with Hendershot & McKeon can likely match what they had with Schultz.
    • The issue is that they really needed better than Schultz in the Niners game.
    • If Michael Mayer is somehow available in the draft, they should draft him. He'll be a top 10 TE as a rookie and top 5 in the 2nd season.
    • Mayer is already better than Schultz. He's going to be prime year's Witten by 2024.
    • Note:
      • I wanted to trade up and get a second 1st round pick to draft Witten back in 2003
      • I cursed Parcells when he passed on Witten in the 2nd.
  • 5. Areas where new starters may be needed: WR 2 opposite Lamb (Gallup was not the same coming off the knee) and CB 2 opposite Diggs where it was a mess after Anthony Brown got hurt.
  • WR
    • They MUST add a big time WR for 2023 unless they add an uber elite TE.
    • Gallup might be better in 2023, but they need another receiving threat that scares defenses (For the Niners that was their TE).
  • CB
    • Bland is the #2 CB now.
    • Worst Case Lewis is the Nickel CB in 2023 and Bland is the 2nd outside CB.
    • I think they'll draft one early, but WR & DT are bigger needs, in my opinion.

  • 6. Playmaking DT's needed.
    • If they had Daron Payne in 2022, they would have been the #1 seed.

  • 7. Kicker likely needed even though Maher's PAT fiasco was probably a bit overplayed by the media.
    • They have to bring in legit competition in the off-season.
    • Impossible to predict Kickers from year to year.
  • I'll add RB as a big need.
    • Even if they retain Pollard, they have to have a legit 2nd RB.
    • Zeke is a 3rd RB type at best now and they can't pay a 3rd RB 10.9M for 2023.
    • I would Franchise Pollard and either sign a quality RB in free agency or draft on relatively early.
    • Actually, I would sign DT Daron Payne in FA and draft a RB in the top 2 rounds.

No trade value for Tyron. Injury history relative to salary is the problem.
- He his salary was low, then therer would be some trade value, but he would be more value to the Cowboys that what they would get in return.

I also trade Diggs, any teammate that sees this film will not want to be in a foxhole (Playoff game) with him. Bland looks like a player A Brown comes back and draft a CB ..DO NOT PAY A PLAYER WHO MAKES BUSINESS DESICIONS IN THE PLAYOFFS.
