Something that makes me uneasy

I've thought this for awhile now and Broaddus brought it up the other day which made me think about it again. To me (and Broaddus) there's slim to none chance that Marinelli will be back next year because of his relationship with Lovie. Now I'm not here to proclaim Marinelli is going to save us this year. My bigger concern and main point of this thread is that next year were gonna have a new DC yet again regardless of our ranking this year. Our offense, regardless of last night, is capable of a post season run. Our special teams with guys like Bailey kicking and Harris returning, is ready now. Our D needs a lot more talent but it's not a good feeling knowing that the things they're learning and growing with this year could be vanished next year. Of course, Garrett could be gone too but I see that as unlikely. I just want to see some continuity with this team and I fear it won't be happening after this year.

You could always promote from within, and maybe Matt Eberflus gets his shot if you are worried about continuity/scheme.

But at the same time, what accomplishments has he done since he's been here?

RM may like coaching here and TB might not have an opening if they play as well as they should on D. Jerry has a way of growing on people and JJ stood by RM and MK after the debacle last year and that will warrant some loyalty.

I don't care who is coaching these guys. Just like I said several times last year - Vince Lombardi himself would not have success with this group. No DL talent

I would not be worried about continuity on a team that has won zero. Why keep around guys that have won nothing? Garrett included.

Blowing it up every couple years isn't the answer either. I feel the team is headed in the right direction and is getting more and more talent on hand. As discussed during the game last night - we will be looked at during cuts due to young talent on O. That is a step in the right direction.

they are headed in the right direction that's true but if garret only wins 5 or 6 games he is very likely gone.Im not sure that is good thing but if he don't win soon he wont be here then coach jones gets to hire a new coach and we see how that turns out.

Your fears are well founded, if that happens. The No. 1 problem with the Dallas Cowboys over the past 20 years has been the constant churn and excessive reach and frequency of change. 4 DC's in 4 years. 3 OC's in 3 years. How can there be any continuity in system, player profiles that fit a system, culture, etc.?

This year's defense is going to be absolutely horrific. And, it will have zero to do with the coaches or players for that matter. It is because of injury and extremely poor FO decisons in player acquisition strategy and tactics. Because of the FO's desire to move up in the draft, we could have had at least 6 other draft picks competing for roster spots that simply are not here because of the FO's draft strategy. It is a failure. Because of this strategy, we have no talent when our precious few front line guys go down due to injury or if they simply do not fulfill their expectations. That leaves our FO with the need to find nuggets of gold from players that really shouldn't even be playing football (i.e. Hayden). Unfortunately, it's usually fools gold.

In all fairness "He" has not had the template in role or talent. One could even argue healthy players might make a difference as well , but then again it's all just up to interpretation. I really have a hard time understanding the win or it's time for the door nature of the sport. It's not like he can make them much more than the very best of average. Just not overflowing with pro-bowl and all-pro talent. "can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear" ~ Harry S. Truman

Jones himself said Red's job would not hang on wins. I have found Jones to be truthful other then around draft time when everybody is evasive

Not sure of Marinelli's contract length, but if he's under contract next year, JJ doesn't have to let him go anywhere. Given that this is his initial year as DC, I'm guessing he will still be under contract.

I try to worry about now. A lot can happen over the next few months. My guess is either Marinelli shocks the world and turns this defense into a respectable unit, we make the post season, and probably earns himself head coaching interviews, or this defense is worse than it was a season ago and we end up with a whole new staff. One scenario I would prefer, but either I'm ok with for different reasons. The only thing I really dread is another 8-8 season and we stay status quo.

I'm curious.

Which scenario is preferred by the 'pimp'?

It won't matter who's on the staff to me at that point.

And there's been a good body of work to conclude from regarding Garrett's time as an OC and HC here.

Scott Linehan, Bill Callahan and Rod Marinelli are respected as some of the very best at what they do and we all know Monte Kiffin's past.

Garrett has had a well reputed and very experienced staff to work under him.

Maybe no other coach can come in here and be successful with the way Jerry structures the FO, but there will be no excuse in my eyes if and when we fall short of the playoffs this year.

I8-8 even in this weak division is going to be a battle for us to get to this year.

It does not matter how talented and on the same page your o-line is if teams know you have to score almost every drive on offense. They are going to pin their ears back and just come after the QB. They will eventually hit our QB if they are willing to sell out and attack at all costs. Then the mistakes happen and then we lose that possession.

Does our defense get the ball back after instead of being scored on?

Look we have no pass rush coming from anywhere in the front 7 and even when Spencer/Lawrence come back that does not ensure a viable one.

We were 5-1 against our division last year losing the game that was there for us to enter the playoffs. That was the majority of our wins from within the division.

If the Eagles are still good to take 1 game from us and either the Giants and Commanders can take 1 then other than Tennesee, where do you see a for sure give me game on the schedule?

If this team does not make the playoffs and I doubt they will this season, I wouldn't care which coaches remain here.

We'd be best doing what we know will never happen. Will Jerry finally succumb to understanding a GM is desperately needed here and surely not one that feels like he has to time punch and tippy toe around Jerry.

He's in his final year now contractually
