Can anybody tell me what kind of BS this is?

My brother in-law, who has had a life filled with bad decisions, has presumably embarked on yet another. His life is marred with credit problems, dishonorable discharge from the military, marriage trouble, not paying child support, not being employed, so on and so on...

Recently, he and my wife's sister had their house ruled to be foreclosed. This after filing bankruptcy in 2006 and having his license suspended for non-payment of child support. You see, he has 6 kids with 3 women and seems to be intent on not paying for any of them. Back on task - He recently read about being a Sovereign Citizen and see's this as a way to block the sheriff from taking control of the house. He was stopped for speeding a month ago and the cop that pulls him over finds a license plate made of cardboard on the car, a homemade computer printout of a drivers license (his being suspended for not paying child support), handcuff's and plastic ties in the back seat (he hopes to be a security guard someday) and a loaded gun in the passenger seat. Fast forward to his court hearing, he tells the judge that he doesn't have to comply because he's just living here but is not of here. The trial for that is pending....

Long story, short question. What are the chances he gets in a shootout with cops before the end of the year and gets killed?

There was a guy here in Memphis that tried this with deeds to houses. After some time in jail he learned it wasn't true. :laugh2:

but basically they think they are a country of their own and aren't bound by US laws.

Wouldn't be a bad thing.

Is this real?

Yes, this is a real story. Hard to believe I know.

For me, it would be long term less stress as my wife is contantly consoleing her sister. Short term it would be 6 kids without a dad.

Unstable man + handgun = trouble.

Good luck to your sister-in-law. Sounds like she might be in a dangerous situation. I hope she realizes this and is careful.

I've read a little bit of their stuff just because I have a little interest in law. I believe it's largely about jurisdiction: Making state agents prove they are acting under common law before they'll enter under it and refusing admiralty (something like that) jurisdiction, old common law and court rulings, lots of legal filing and documentation, and other random things like arguing the definition of every single word of a statute. So when they go to court, it takes forever just to get started because they won't even enter a plea. And on and on and on.

It sounds like they are already without a dad.

I would say the over/under is about 2 months.

We saw how Petoria worked out for Peter Griffin. :laugh2:

Didn't work out too bad for Will Hunting though, except he got stuck dating the world's largest jaw.

I'm guessing that your wife's sister ain't all there either. She probably has a lot of here own "issues." How could she be with a total loser like your brother-in-law?

She does have issues. #1 at this point is her trying to look the other way on the issues but those of us on the outside seeing her probably getting caught in the crossfire. She doesn't want to move back in with her mother, letting pride muddy her vision.
