Special Teams coach John "Bones" Fassel loves to gamble once in a while whenever our special teams units (kickoff/kick return/punt/punt return/field goal/extra points) are on the field.

I saw this old punt trick play performed by the Houston Oilers against the Buffalo Bills during the Hall Of Fame game. I wonder if he would consider it?

What trick play(s) would you like to see Coach Fassel try?

Thats a good one, but quite risky , when he transfers in one hand behind back , if he was hit at that point , the ball would be coughed up and go other way,

I. Would like Him to mix in a reverse once in awhile.

Also, is anyone else nervous every time the opp is punting? I’m nervous that a roughing the kicker can happen at anytime.

He seems to be playing it smart, though, only rushing the punter when there are more than 5 yards. Running into the kicker is more likely than roughing, and more than 5 yards allows you to be aggressive if the players do what they are trained to do, which is not take an angle that takes them into the punter's plant leg.

I like the trick where we don't go offsides when they are trying to punt on 4th and 4. We do this a couple times a year it seems because he wants to block every punt.

Well his trick plays would be more successful than Moore's. I would bet a house on it.
Trick plays need to be run based on the situation and how the game is playing out. That’s the issue I have with Boy Wonder. He does it at the wrong time. If I remember right, the first one against Tampa was on the opening drive and set us back about 8 yards. We managed to overcome that, but if the opening 15 plays or do are scripted, that means he planned it regardless of what the offense was doing or Tampa’s defense.

Bones is a little better with when to rush & when not to. But a mistake rushing the punter/kicker this year has the potential to take an opportunity away from your kick return playmaker.

I honestly thought we were going to run a fake punt last game... so far all's quiet

absolutely agree. The situation and field position will certainly merit it at some point.

Before Bones came aboard when was the last ST coach that brought excitement to that side of the ball? Dude is unpredictable to opposing teams and that can only be a plus even if he has nothing up his sleeve for that particular game.

Joe Avezzano was the last ST coach I can remember who got very excited on the sidelines. When he got mad, I remember seeing the veins on the side of his head pop out!! LOL

All I know is that Goodwin is a TERROR on ST, making huge plays left and right....

Much better to keep him than a shot at the upside of Ridgeway or Houston.

No one else could come close to matching his impact.
