Yes--I know it is only our sixth game but tonight is HUGE for a couple of reasons.

1. We have not really beaten a good solid playoff team thus far.

2. National TV audience can see the Cowboys are for real

3. The winner is in sole position of 1st place

4. Carolina will be motivated next week

This game with the Giants tonight....although early will DEFINE our season one way or another! :suxjints:

I totally agree. It will define what we are, after 6 games. Are we a first place team with a chance to do something in the post season or are we an average team destined to be 8-8?

I believe it is a big game from this perspective.

Win
A Cowboys win could propel them into realizing their talent potential. Confidence would ratchet up a notch due to two victories in a row, and a move into the top spot in the NFC East. Momentum is a powerful force.

Lose
On the other hand, a loss would be devastating. While not even half way through the season, the team's collective esteem would take a serious hit having the opportunity to climb into first place (winning two-in-a-row), and having blown that opportunity. A loss signals that the Cowboys are no better than 90% of the other teams in this league of mediocrity, parity, and inconsistency. Inertia is a powerful force.

The End Result
A breakout game, or status quo?

We will learn alot tonight about the makeup of this team and the trajectory upon which they will be propelled for the remainder of the season.

No escaping the laws of physics.

I agree 100%...next week on the road at Carolina...we must take care of business tonight!

Unfortunately, under BP (and others), the Cowboys have show no inerest in winning a "meanningful" game. I go back to last year when the POs were within reach, this team couldn't put together a win to clinch a spot. I don't think the spectre of 1st place in the East is going to impress them either. I sure hope I'm wrong, but I'm not going to believe anything about this team until they show me....

every division game is a big game but i think this one can really get us going through the heart of the season. if we can win this one and win two out of the next 3 on the road we'd be sitting in a good position at 6-3 with the majority of the rest of the games at home.

Unfortunately, you're right, they haven't done well in these kinds of games for a few years. I'm hoping they can turn that around tonight.

Couldn't have said it better!

I'll go one step further. We win tonight, and then follow it up with a win at Carolina, we are right there with the Bears as everyones mid season favorite to make it to Miami!

Solid post my friend. I agree that this game is indeed a statement game. If we lose, then the Cowboys are just another run-of-the-mill, .500 football team.

If we win, then mediots across the nation, as well as our opponents must take note! This game will go a long way in determining if we are a playoff caliber team, even if it is the 6th game of our season.
