Steelers’ Harrison: I don’t care if I hurt players

PITTSBURGH (AP)—Steelers linebacker James Harrison(notes) states his objective matter-of-factly: He’s out to hurt any opposing player who roams into his vicinity.
If he sees players down on the turf—as he did Sunday when he sidelined Browns wide receivers Joshua Cribbs(notes) and Mohamed Massaquoi(notes) with punishing hits only minutes apart during the second quarter—he feels as if he’s done his job.

Harrison said he doesn’t want to put any player out of a game or jeopardize his career. The former AP Defensive Player of the Year also realizes it can be difficult to draw a line between merely hurting a player and badly injuring him as plays take place at full speed and hits are delivered with little time to consider the consequences.

As much as the NFL likes to bend over for the Rooneys, he is going to still regret saying this.

he's being honest. I'll take 11 guys with that attitude every day.

Mike singletary used to have dreams that he'd hit people so hard, their heads would pop off.

Bingo. I want my defensive players to inflict some pain.

I'm sure none of the people on this thread had a problem with Darren Woodsen or Dat Nguyen or Cliff Harris putting a big hit on someone.

So the response is to start screaming conspiracy again, as the folks that can't separate emotion from rational thouught do. The Rooneys get away with everything while the Cowboys get picked on. HArrison has to be on steroids despite widespread testing in today's NFL, but because he works for the Rooneys he gets away with it.

Come on people, God gave you a head for a reason other than as a hat rest.

There is nothing wrong with a good clean hard hit, but Harrison is straight up a dirty player. There is no room for that in the league.

Come on you guys, don't you wish we had a bunch of Bill Romanowski's on our team? Trying to hurt guys and spitting in their face. That's what tough guys do. :laugh2:

I wish we had a few more guys who wanted to absolutely knock someone lights out with a good, clean, physical hit.

We don't seem to have any guys who want to do that though. But dirty play...well there absolutely zero room for that.

At least one of the two hits by Harrison on Sunday (The first one) was absolutely helmet to helmet. How that wasn't called, and yet they did call it on the one where the Falcon laid out DJax is absolutely crazy.

On that one the CB clearly had his head to the side, in DJaxs Chest/arm area. I didn't see a single shot (And I could have missed one obviously) that showed his helmet ever even tough Jacksons.

But the hit on Cribs it was clear as day that Harrison went helmet to helmet.

I wouldn't ever set out to hurt anyone deliberately unless it was, you know, important - like a league game or something.

No, a hat rest is pretty much what God had in mind for the conspiracy fans.

Ummm ill take that kind of defensive player. It doesn't matter if he gets fined for that statement or if he gets suspended for a game.... the dude said he doesn't mind hurting you when he is near.... That will go on in a WR head forever and they will be very catious coming across the middle. I think if the hit is completely legal and it lays someone out there is nothing wrong with it. I have seen guys get completely blown up, but somehow never go to the ground and score a touchdown. Where do you draw the line. Hit them as hard as you can legal so they don't get up and score :O

Actually, him saying it just means that the NFL is going to be forced to flag him any time he even comes close to going helmet to helmet.

I don't disagree with putting a stop to blatently dirty hits. I was just saying that I don't have a problem with anyone saying they want to make the opponent feel pain, and I do have a problem with all these damn conspiracy theorist always whining about how everyone else gets away with stuff except the Cowboys.
