Stopping the Run: Personnel or Mentality?

I thoroughly believed it was a discipline and scheme thing, not a personnel thing. We don’t have All-Pro DT’s but we aren’t bad enough on the DL to be bottom third in rush defense.

It was clear to me that the defense got caught up in sacks and splash plays, not hard hat assignment sound football. You saw the talk all week and a concerted effort to stick to it today.

Of course our scoring helped and that’s what complementary football is supposed to do. But I do not believe this team is as bad at run defense as they showed the last few weeks.

I think it has a lot to do with the opposing offense's scheme.

The misdirection and RPO is a problem for this defense.

Minnesota has a basic running attack. Cousins can't run

I believe it has a lot to do with personnel because it’s been an ongoing problem for years. However, some of it has to do with mentality. We were determined today.

if the offense runs the ball and stop trying to throw it 40 times you shorten the game and we score more thus forcing the other team to have to pass which we have the best pass rush in the league

make no mistake....if we had that mentality of pass pass pass Cook wouldve had a field day because the runs he had were good ones

offense has to help the defense in that regard

Yup, have to play your assignment and observe your keys. Getting off the field on 3rd down won this game in the 1st Q.
