I wrote about this before. It's way harder to do the job of two people, which is what I do when he doesn't come to work. This is so frequent that I can't remember the last time he worked all five days of his shift. Man, do I ever miss the previous guy who was always here. The guy's good at the job when he's actually here. But he can't help us if he's not here. I honestly would rather have someone who's not quite as good at it, but is always here.

Why do I bother to have good attendance if I can't count on him? I come to work unless something so kicks my behind that I can't even do my job -- or if I'm legally compelled to be somewhere, as in a court date. But he misses AGAIN and AGAN and AGAIN and AGAIN.

If they can't fire his butt for bad attendance, I honestly might as well find work elsewhere. What a difference it makes when you can count on people versus this flaky malarkey. There's no amount of skill a person can have at a job that can make up for lousy attendance. Just venting. Really frustrated. Gotta get back to this double pile that I'll end up staying late to get done.

What line of work are you in?

It’s fair game to discuss your concerns with your direct supervisor.

Of course, it’s possible, the person has a legit reason for missing so much time that you are unaware of. For instance, a health problem.

But if that’s not the case. Then it’s fair game to tell your supervisor about the unfair strain it places on you.

He's not here AGAIN! This weekend I'll be hunting job leads online. Wish me luck. Sheez. When people sign up to work some place, don't they know that means they're supposed to work their shifts?

I'd doubt that. He's a 49er fan. That in itself is reason enough to deserve termination.
Poor Reverend, it's unrealistic to expect anything out of a 49ers fan. Before you quit, make sure there's a job worthy of you. Cowboy fans deserve a great deal more than the average Joe or worse, a 49er's fan. The rest of the NFL thinks we're intolerable so it's up to us to live up to that image. It's on your shoulders now and we're counting on you. Make us proud.

Same thing where I work. I have this one co-worker who is either not at work or late...

I work in a Cannabis facility in sanitation. There used to be 4 of us sanitizing the machines and 2 lines. Now there are 2 of us and this flaky dude now sanitizing 4 lines of machines. It is so frustrating. I would have fired him long ago. Anyways, I feel your pain. People have no sense of responsibility anymore...too many momma's children in this world...

It's another hooky day for my coworker.

He's doing it AGAIN.

If you have a business or you're in charge, do everyone a favor. If you have an employee with crap attendance, FIRE HIM.
Enough is enough.
Edit: I can't remember the last time he actually worked his Friday shift.

I am sorry, I stopped comprehending anything after "I work in a Cannabis facility.....". I don't ever want to see you complain again!

Rev, have you ever told this person the effect his not showing up is having on you and your job?

Your use of caps and color signifies rage in the workplace and here's the problem, you are upset, your co-worker isn't. You are letting this get to you and affect your life and not only at work. This is one of those "eat at you" things because you are having to pay the price for their absence.

Use your imagination, and I damned well know you've got a good one because I spend time in the OTZ, to change the mental picture. Instead of picturing this person screwing off and having fun, picture them in a dark situation facing demons you aren't aware of and fighting a losing battle. Take your resentment toward this person and turn it into compassion for them. Take the opportunity to elevate yourself beyond the anger.

I use this in traffic all the time. When someone's driving in anyway that is affecting me in a negative, my first reaction used to be get pissed and might even flip them off if it was an old lady that I assumed wasn't packing but now I try and imagine something going on. An old lady is driving too slow. She's just received some terrible news about her family and is barely aware that she is driving. A guy is weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed. He's rushing to get to the hospital because someone he loves has been injured. Doesn't matter if any of that is remotely true, it is for me and my state of mind. I can't control them but I can try to control me and my thoughts.

Two options. Talk to your immediate supervisor and file a complaint.

or be passive aggressive as hell. Next time you know he is in the office and super busy. Call out or leave early “sick” and let him carry the load for once.

In my girlfriends department its a lot like this every day right up to the supervisor. She works 45-50 hrs a week including weekends doing a vast majority of the work and the other girls will have things like "organizing emails" as a reason they "worked" (never online or logged in of course) 2-3 hrs on a Saturday to try and hit 40. Always excuses to be late, not come in or take PTO even though none of them have any time at all to take. Most the day they are here is spent eating, watching videos or messaging away on their phones. What can be done? The supervisor is just as bad! Been here for 3-4 years and hasn't had a full week of work once! I would be gone in a heartbeat...

The awesome thing is, she is being looked at for an internal position with a group that works their butts off. There is another lady in a different department who got into that same position and is the "clone" of my girlfriend in the sense that she works her butt off and the rest of her group doesn't. I myself can't wait until she gets moved over to that new group in a few months. Being able to work together with the other girl and the 3 guys I know are also there will be great for her. Work hard, work together.
