I have an important check to deposit, which I normally do with my bank's app. I got up early this morning to do it, and I logged into the app. My user name and password work, but then the app gives me a "service not available" error. So I got to try to do it with my PC instead of my phone. On my Linux PC, the login works and shows the deposit feature as available. I have to photograph my check with my phone and transfer it to the PC. However, then when I try to do the deposit, it complains that Java is not installed on this PC. But I know for a fact that Java IS installed. I had made a point to install Oracle Java instead of OpenSource Java on this computer. So I figure it's just flipping out because my bank's web page is too stupid to work with a Linux PC. So I try it on my Windows one. Everything works just fine until I go to upload the images of the check. Then it whines that the images are too big, bigger than the 4.5 MB maximum size. Annoyed, I edit the images in an image editor to bring their size down. Then I try again, and every step works until the final one. When I click on that, it gives me the message "feature not available right now."
Technology will drive you NUTS sometimes. If the feature wasn't available on the web site, you would think it could have told me up front instead of having me do all that and then getting almost to the end -- and then it tells me. That was hours ago and it's still not fixed. Makes me wonder if anyone will fix it. Today's a holiday -- ML King day.
