Who is the Armagen Eagle (rhetorical question)?

By now, you may/may not have read some of my posts. I cut my teeth on the Philadelphia Eagles Message Board (EMB). Some of you may be wondering why I brought up that detail. Well, if you can survive on the EMB, you are thick-skinned, tough as nails, and willing to be chewed out by your own brother/sister fans. I was initially trained to strike back "at-all-costs," to defend my position. However, visiting other team message boards, establishing a dialogue with other team fans and moderators, I have mellowed out. I realize that other team fans feel exactly about their respectives teams, as I do about the Eagles.

First I'll talk some general smack (Note to the Mod Squad): this is not directed toward any specific team; the team names have been changed to cleanup the post). When I first registered on the EMB, the following was my introduction ...

Eagle Fans are soldiers ...over the years of romping, stomping, hell, death and destruction; many of us were born in bomb craters, our parents was an M-16 rifle, and a fire-breathing dragon. Each moment that we live, we'll talk smack to other opponents; but we'll congratulate you if you played tough.

We're roguish looking, roving Eagles soldiers from the streets of North, South, and West Philly. We're cocky, self-centered, overbearing, and we don’t Know the meaning of the word fear— for we are fear itself! We're an Eagles green amphibious monster made of blood and guts--who arose from the alley ways, and dead-end streets. Our sole purpose in life is to become a championship team We'll die a glorious death on the football battle fields giving all for Mom, Cheesesteaks, Hoagies, Waterice, soft pretzels, apple pie, and the American way.

We live like Division Champs--warriors by day, lovers by night, American by birth, and Eagles Fans by choice, by God!

ERRRRRRRRRUFFFFFFFFFFF!

Again, I've mellowed out since my initiation as an Eagles fan, but I'm still an Eagles Fan!

I'd like to know something about how other team fans were forged--what being a ___________fan means to you. What stuff is your team fans made of?

Also, who are your

A). Super stars B). Playmakers?

mod squad alert ...

What the hell are you talking about???

AJM,

Thanks for asking for clarification; no problem.

The first segment of my post was intended to get attention (this is the "Smack Talk thread)." I am "smack talking." Smack Talk can be fabricated dialogue as long as it is not offensive to anyone else (hence the term fabricated).

Also, since I'm relatively new, I thought I'd give some background regarding the type of post that one can expect to get from me (e.g., clean, interesting, never boring, dialogue -- but I am capable of going there with the best of them).

Finally, I just asked a simple question that was not necessarily directed towar anyone specifically; however anyone is welcome to respond if they choose.

Here's the question ...

"I'd like to know something about how other team fans were forged--what being a (Giants, Commanders, Bengals, etc) fan means to you. What stuff is your team fans made of?"

This rephrased/restated question apllies to all sports fans (regardless of your team affiliation):

Question #1: Who are the super stars on your respective teams (the players that you feel will undoubtedly make the Pro-bowl, and have a reputation around the league of known success). Also, did you think there is a difference between super stars and "play-makers?" Who are the play-makers on your respective teams?

Question #2 This was really intended to allow some smack talk, to describe how dedicated fans are with the (Giants, Commanders, Bengals, etc).

I hope that this has helped those who needed to know "What the he77 I'm talking about" (SIC).

Note: While I used a "third-person" reference in my post, this note is meant for my Eagles fan brother AJM. I assure you I wasn't trying to be vague (or were you just being nieve?).

No disrespect to you, but there are more than 25 team fans in the NFL -- let's try our best to stay on the good foot (definition: don't make this personal!). :(

Dag-gonit -- I'm just smack talking!?

Though you come off like a psycho, i'm going to take the bait here:

Super stars:

On the Cowboys, the players I feel will be guaranteed pro bowlers 5 years from now:

Flozell Adams
Terence Newman
Roy Williams

Guys with potential but without proving it yet:

Antonio Bryant
Jason Witten
Julius Jones

Joshmvii,

I'm no psycho (never judge a fan by the name of his team, or through the opinion of others). I was merely acting out the topic of this thread -- "Smack Talk."

I agree with Antonio Bryant ; but I'm unfamiliar with the others (I'm not a Cowboy's fan). But Bryant will make the pro-bowl! Who are the others, and what position do they play. Also, I couldn't happen to notice that you didn't depict any "play-makers." Unless you meant that the super stars were also play-makers?

IMO, playmakers don't shine like super stars, but these are the guys that get the extra yards needed when its "third down and short yardage in the fourth quarter.
The play-makers are the people the coach calls on to make something happen, to slap the team in the face with a play that will change the momentum of game--shift the game to the advantage of their team.

On the Eagles, I feel we have a few superstars:

Donovan McNabb (QB); double threat (running and throwing)
Terrel Owens (Receiver); double threat (catching, and yardage after the catch)
Brian Westbrook (running -- ground threat and kick-off returns)

On the Eagles, I feel we have a few play-makers:

Donavon McNabb (ss & pl-mkr)
Mitchell (clutch player -- first down specialist, w/breakway capability)
Coach Andy Reid (willing to take chances to make something develop)

Thanks for your input, I hope I get other team fan responses, or perhaps another twist on your team.

:D

Glover? I think I may have to take a trip over to NFL.Com to take a look at the Dallas CB team (e.g., positions, stats, etc).

Is Glover a playmaker, or Super Star (or both)?

He is a Pro-Bowler....that should say all you need to know about him....and that is not smack talk.

BTW...There has only been ONE playmaker...and His name was Michael Irvin.....of course his off the field name could have been...DumbArse :p

Past play-makers could have been

Nate Newton
Linebacker position (can't recall his name)
Emmit Smith
Dion Sanders
Coach (now an NFL announcer with "JB")

Just to name a few.

FYI: Armageddon

There's no shame in misspelling in posts, but in your name... that's a little embarrassing. ;)

I think your name is apt, though, since the Eagles winning a Super Bowl would probably be a sign that the End is Near!

Fortunately more than likely that's a LONG way off.

Sure I'm embarrased DW!

And oh, btw did I mention ouch?

But you're right about one thing ... the end of the Eagles choking era is over!

Thanks again DW. Did you hear about Eddie George (fromerly from the Titans)?

What about George? Are you claiming you guys signed him? I think maybe you've been hanging out on too many message boards, but maybe you're just way ahead of the curve on this.

If so, congrats. The final piece of the puzzle is now in place. I hear Ricky Watters is looking to make a comeback. They could be the new "Thunder and Lightning."

Does George now bump Brian Westbrook off your list of "superstars"? It would certainly appear so. Maybe Westbrook could be "Superstar 3A" because he certainly has all the credentials of a bona fide Eagles Superstar.

Or maybe he's a "playmaker"? Does he fit in before or after super playmaker Freddie Mitchell? I think he has to rate above Andy Reid for the simple fact that -- unlike Reid -- George actually is allowed in the huddle and to touch the ball.

I'd now rate your playmakers as:

1) That goofy tight end who likes making a big "T" with his arms whenever he touches the ball.

2) Eddie George

3) Todd Pinkston -- pound for pound the toughest Eagle out there.

DW,

Get a grip! I'm saying that the buzz is that the cowboys are talikng to George about signing; vIs-a-vis the Eagles! Actually he would fit our offense quite nicely.

George wouldn't do that bad for the cowboys and your "wet behind the ears QB either. Now that's just buzz right now. :D

I can't speak for Dallas as I've only been addicted to the Cowboys for a year.
I can tell you what Jets fans are "forged on" tho.

Primarily it's a massive, inescapable inferority complex vis a a vis the New York Football Giants. But the forging process also includes heavy doses of humanitarian ownership with no cutting edge desire to win, years of inept front office management, and full decades of not seeing a playoff game, no exclusive stadium for twenty years, and always, always sulking in the shadow of the Jints.

The Jet fan is also a montage of Joe Willie Namath memories, brief, if historic glory cut down by sick knees and seasons of no surrounding cast, phemomenal busts like Blair Thomas and Johnny Mitchell, the passing over of Danny Marino and John Elway, and watching the biggest star of the 80's, a 'roid driven DE nutcase, quit in his prime for professional wrestling and a B movie starlet.

We're about paper bags over our heads til Parcells took them off, ingratitude that he let us breathe, Bruce Coslet, Dick Kotite, and Buddy Ryan before he was Buddy Ryan. About J-E-T-S stands for Just End The Season, horrendous mass team injuries ending a season on opening day, and the continued ignominy of playing in "Giants Stadium".

We're about fake spikes humiliating us, and snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in some of the most creative ways known to man. About fire fighter cheerleaders and being tougher on our players than any fans in the league (so says Boomer Esiason), about sending receivers who drop passes Super -Glue and baskets by the barrel, and the willingness to acidly discuss "unloading" players like Martin and Abraham on a whim. About usually being bent over by Oakland since Ben Davdison broke Joe Willie's jaw, and the Heidi Game. About LOATHING Miami and New England. About the underappreciation of Weeb Ewbank, and the high old winds in Shea Stadium that convinced us to take O'Brien over Marino.

It's a masochist's delight, and a West Side Story song lyric - "til your last dying day".

We were "forged" on misery. :D
