Hmm. I drive a 97 Sentra, with a good bit of miles on it. My lady was just asking if she should use it in her Toyota SUV. But I said to hold off till I did some research. I know sometimes it can void your warranty and it can also interact with the gaskets adversely after a certain amount of time. Hers has about 40k miles or so.

Well here's the thing to consider... if you have an oil leak of any kind, do NOT use synthetic oil. It is much "slicker" and will leak a lot more than traditional oil due to viscosity...

A leak of a few drops a day with fossil oil may become a total draining with synthetic...

I use it in my air cooled Harley and my dirtbike. Both get the crap beat out of them. Was very impressed with the condition of the V-Twin when I tore it down at 50k. Oil changes done every 5k, twice the recommend interval for dyno. Good stuff.

I use it, but that's because that's what the manufacturer puts in it.

I've used it on my 99 Miata for 10 years and it still runs like a champ.

Macgruber can say the same.

I don't know a lot about motor oils, but I heard that Synthetic is much more expensive, and once you start using it, you can't switch back. THat info is about 25 yrs old in my brain, so not sure if it still applies.

So I won't put it on my old Sentra. Maybe I'll consider the Toyota next time around. Just wanted to discuss it because 3k miles on a relatively new car to ponder the idea shouldn't make that much of a difference.

I would make sure that the car's Manuel stated that either or kind of oil is OK.

It's not good for some engines, but really good for others. It works best on little fast cars.

;)

Most manufacturers suggest you use fossil oil for the first 10k, then synthetic after that...

Not sure why... they just do...

I don't use it myself , but my father does . He has done a good bit of research and found out that it really pays off on older and high mileage motors . He has two 1946 Ford coupes and he uses it on both .

it is more expensive but not really all that much for cars when you are talking only 4-5 quarts.

For diesel trucks its like 14 quarts so that really adds up.

Really depends on how long you want to keep your vehicle and how hard you drive it.

If you drive it hard and want to keep it for 10 years go for synthetic

If you don't drive it hard and plan to trade in 5 years or so stay with goodl old fashion fossil
