Mike Williams-WR- Player Apr. 5 - 3:28 pm et

Syracuse WR Mike Williams improved markedly on his measurables from the Combine during a workout for six NFL teams on Monday.

He ran forties of 4.53 and 4.55, posted a 36.5" vertical, did the short shuttle in the 4.17-4.22 range, and long jumped 9'10". If nothing else, Williams proved that he's willing to work to improve. His passion for the game has been widely questioned after quitting Syracuse's team seven games into 2009.

No receivers named Mike Williams please... :laugh2:

John Murphy
Sahlen's Sports Park - He got a chance to show his stuff at the NFL Combine in February. And Buffalo native Mike Williams got another chance Monday afternoon, at a private Pro Day workout in Western New York. He ran and went through drills for five NFL scouts at Sahlen's Sports park in Elma.

Williams is a good sized wide receiver who played high school football at Buffalo's Riverside High School. And he played wideout at Syracuse University until this past year, when he left the program after seven games. Williams lost senior year followed early mis-steps, when he was thrown out of the SU program for academic violations.

While he works to impress the scouts with his on-field measureables, Williams is well aware that his off-field misdeeds may cost him in draft status. He told reporters after the Monday workout that he's trying to polish his image.

"Basically, I'm trying to stay out of trouble," he said. "I know my name is a high profile name right now, so anywhere I go it's going to be blown out of proportion. I just gotta stay away, chill, relax. I made some mistakes, and I gotta learn from my mistakes and make up for it."

Williams was clocked at 4.55 seconds in the 40-yard dash Monday. His vertical jump was measured at 37-inches, four inches better than his jump at the Combine.

Scouts from the Bills, San Diego, Green Bay, Tampa Bay, and Cleveland were on the hand for the workout. Most draft experts project Williams as a potential 2nd or 3rd rounder.

No thanks. To many issues here and I don't think he could deal with all the distractions here in Dallas.

Guy is a ****ing idiot.

I hope he goes undrafted and gets sent to canada like that idiot from OK state a couple years ago.

Seems like a big "if".

Anyone who drops out of a free path through college because "school isn't for them" is a fool.

has anybody ever heard the "real" reason he dropped out. I suppose it'll leak out at some point before or after the draft.

Yes, I have.

He's lazy.

Doug Marrone came in and gave him another chance and he didn't like Marrone being tough on him and didn't like it when Marrone suspended him for a game for breaking curfew.

He's a guy we take if he goes undrafted. Maybe that will knock some sense into him. Otherwise if somebody drafts him, he'll still act like an unmotivated goof.

YAKUZA

And that's why Dallas needs to say NO thanks...

Yakuza must be a 'Cuse guy as I am.

Mike Williams had everything going for him, he was desperately needed on his Syracuse team as it's primary downfield threat as an emerging star as a sophomore. Then got caught holding notes during a test as a soph. Dropped out of Syracuse(or expelled?) for academic reasons enrolled in the local JC and worked his grades upward and reapplied for admission and was re-accpeted.He was tearful and grateful and promised that his second chance would be a gift he would cherish.

Marrone instituted tough conduct rules for all, along NFL lines upon his hiring, and Williams immediately chafed, after dropping an easy catch in the endzone that was critical in Syracuse's opening day loss to Minnesota in OT he had several unforced drops as the weeks went by, then one night he was at a banned visiting spot for players, the casino 25 miles out of town when the car he and three other players was hit from behind at 4:00A.M.The other players accepted a one game suspension, Williams chose to quit on his teammates in the midst of a losing streak and offensive lull after game 7.This guy isn't just a quitter he's an immature loser. He gamed the system in college, wished to be treated as special and quit on his teammates and the university that gave him a second chance. The chance of him turning into a hard working and disciplined NFL receiver is zero.
