can anyone explain the 'Douglas' reference? Julius was also wearing one along with a few others.

I think that is the name of the company that makes the pads. You just see it because he is wearing the pad outside his shirt.

Yes. Douglas is the company that makes those pads for their backs!!! It is required to be under their shirts during a game.
