As a 4th round pick rookie, Jake Ferguson flashed athleticism and big play run after catch skills (the patent leap frog jump plays)

- In 2023, he was clearly gaining a rapport with Dak Prescott, ( and it's only with Dak ) ..do i think Fergy will/could be a stand out. Based off those promising flashes i thought Fergy could eventually be a Pro Bowl TE.

- With Cooper Rush subbing for an injured Dak, McCarthy's under-utlizing him, and a wicked concussion in week 11, that could've had that much more ill effect on him, Ferguson really took a major step back in '24.
Zero TDs in 2024, isn't a ringing endorsement.

- Oddly, even after his promising, display rookie year it was wide spread that the rumor the Cowboys were looking for a new starting TE ..thus the whispering rumors of draft interest in TEs Dalton Kincaid,(Bills) ..and Sam Laporta (Lions) ..before settling on drafting 2nd rd. bust TE Luke Schoonmaker..

- To this day, That Luke pick still burns at me.
But to me, it is vital to implement Ferguson back into this offense. With Opposing defenses having to defend and focus on both Lamb & Pickens, things should open up opportunity for Fergy in 2025.

With our strength at receiver, it could be a good year for Ferguson.

Not to derail your thread, but he isn't a bust.
The correct word is probably “overdrafted.”

I’d call that fair. Panic move after missing/passing on the other TEs and they were determined to get one because they like to put themselves in that position.

If replacing Schultz was that important they should have gone with LaPorta over Mazi, but since they refuse to sign decent DTs in FA, they had to force it.

Schoon filled in fine when Ferg was out last year and calling him a full bust isn’t fair, but they blew that draft overall.

Why? They force themselves to take certain positions and continue to think that’s the right way to go about roster building.

I do not believe the Cowboys thought Ferguson had a promising rookie year with 19 catches and 174 yards. Although it seemed pretty obvious to a lot of fans.

The Cowboys have never understood how to use 2 TE's. We could have two All-Pro TE's and one would just block.

As a 2nd round pick, he is..

You can find guys like Spann Ford that could take his secondary role. Luke is not the type you game plan for.
Yep, exactly. Schultz and Ferguson were both 4ths.
And he ain't as good as either of them.

The only way we will find out what Schoonmaker is, will be if and when Ferguson is out for the season.

When we have 1 legit TE, the other is never used in the game plan other than to block.

We paid good money to Blake Jarwin after Witten, he got hurt and Shultz came out of nowhere.

We never should have brought Witten back from retirement, but we had no idea what we had.

I think a huge year is coming for him. Teams started to double him that really affected his play, that won’t be happening with Pickens on the roster

They didn't miss or pass on anyone. At anytime they could have traded up if they wanted one so bad. They didn't.
The video I saw had them debating between Smith, Bergeron and LaPorta. They took Smith.

I’d call that passing on LaPorta, and Schoonmaker over Torrence as a result was the wrong call as well….but uh, wasn’t the “right scheme fit.” Booker at 12 is though. Interesting.
