There are several reports floating around the net today that Cottrell is on his way to San Deigo as we speak to take the DC job under Norv Turner. I had heard he was rumored to a candidate for the Cowboys DC job. Is this a big loss to Dallas or does everyone feel that Bowles will be a better fit?

I saw little mention of Cottrell as Phillips DC. If we had wanted Cottrell, Phillips would have moved earlier to get him. Instead Phillips twice as asked to talk to SD's Pagano & Stewart but twice was refused. Yet we still go w/o a DC and Bowles also was not named. I think Phillips has been waiting out the SD HC job in hopes he could spring either Pagano or Stewart free. Earlier a SD paper reported Stewart would ask to leave for Dallas as its new DC once SD named their new HC. So no I don't think we lose if SD gets Cottrell cause he's isn't the coach Phillips wants. We will see what happens over next 2 days.

Wade was on the radio a week or so ago and said there wouldn't be a role for a DC like Cottrell because he is going to be running the D.

Cottrell was an interesting proposition, but I would actually rather got with several options other than him. Nothing against him really, but he does have a reputation of alienating some players. Similar to Bruce Coslet in that regard.

SD's Union Tribune is reporting that Chargers GM L.V.Smith wants Cottrell as his DC. How come the media isn't portraying Norv as his puppet like they did with Jones? Anyway, all I want is for Phillips to get the DC he wants (sure doesn't sound like Phillips wants Cottrell gives his previous comments).

I don't think SD can afford to let Cottrell go anywhere but to them. There are very few 3-4 coaches in this league and I don't think Norv is that good w/ a 3-4 D is he? I'd say SD has to outbid all comers for the services of Cottrell.

BTW this is a very good opportunity for Norv. They have the best "triplets" since Manning, James and Harrison (or is it Harris?) and I agree Norv will really light it up w/ these guys. It leaves SF in the cold unless Ernie is available...
