Guess who had the pocket book to make it happen? Just one guess allowed!
Doesn't matter. He wins nothing without Jimmy. Jimmy doesn't come the real Cowboys die with Landry. Then we would all be talking about the glory days of the 1970's. Do you think anybody-the talking heads or anybody would talk about us? We'd be as irrelevant as the Detroit Lions who dominated the 50's. Long forgotten.

It does matter big time No Jerry no 3 Superbowls And most likely no Cowboys He kept the team here Team was headed for another City and that is a fact if he did not buy the team

They weren't going to any other city. They had one of the biggest fan bases around. I know I followed them then. They were losing money because they fell on hard times and had an idiot for an owner. But It wasn't like they had 20 straight losing seasons. They had 3 when Jerry bought the team. All they needed was an owner with a vision. Jerry was that owner once. The first few years he was a great owner. Then he wanted to take charge and drove the one person that made his team relevant again away. Did I like those SB? Yea I did. It doesn't make up for the nearly 30 year ineptitude of the front office. It's not really The Dallas Cowboys anymore anyway. It's Jerry's Circus and we get to live in it.

Team was going down the toilet big time and the top bidder in front of Jerry was going to relocate the team and keep Tom

Watching this one take off on a tangent:

A lot of us get frustrated with Jerry's football decisions, but the man has clearly won at life. His business acumen is something else.

Just give me that bus and I'll live in it, move it whenever I like. Who needs a house?

Nice, accurate write up.
My big picture goes deeper. IF Jerry and Jimmy never were college team mates at Arkansas the 90s turnaround of this team never happens.

Everything. I mean everything, which ultimately determined the fate of this team can be traced back to their having been team mates in college.

This is the sole determinant of Cowboys fate.

It's the only accurate thing Jerry loyalists have ever said in their spin of things and that is well, "Jerry hired Jimmy" so....

So nothing.

THAT is Jerry's claim to fame.
The hiring of Jimmy Johnson.
Nothing else.
Nothing else happens without this event.
So how each individual wants to rationalize how a college friendship determines Jerry's role in Dallas's historical success is up to the individual.

Some give Jerrys hiring of Jimmy some kinda strange credit while others know the real architect, engineer and mastermind of that team is Jimmy Johnson.
And only Jimmy Johnson.
Period.
