Terrance Steele: an obvious turn-style at RT

He came in as a rookie, injury free and was a surprise starter at RT. He was a very good run blocker, average in pass protection before he injured a knee. Now he is absolutely terrible, embarrassing to watch. His free-agent pedigree shows that he was lacking true talent. He was a flash for two years. Now, it is obvious he cannot run or pass block. He must be replaced.

Zach Martin is all beaten up after 11 years of gladiator excellence, so the whole right side of the OL is performing way below average. Beebe and Guyton will greatly improve next year.

If you go back the past 20 years almost all Cowboys' starting offensive linemen were drafted in rounds 1-4, with the exception of free agent Ron Leary. Lael Collins was a first round talent taken as a special free agent after being accused of a serious crime.

First rounders included All-Universe Tyron Smith, T Fred, Zach Martin, T Guyton, our LG T Smith, 2nd rounders Andre Gurode, Connor Williams, Connor McGovern; 4th rounders Biadascz, Doug Free; 3rd round Beebe.

How will this team establish a solid OL for next year? We need a mauler at RG. Could a ready to start center be available in the 3rd round and move Bebee to RG? We need to draft a "ready to start" tackle in the 2nd round, as our draft position will allow us a top 42 player there.

To have a respectable team next year, we know we will get back on defense Sam Williams and M Neeland for DE. Deron Bland will boost the secondary. D Lawrence should want to come back for a team discount for one more productive year to go out on a positive note.

So I propose making an all offense first three picks:
Ashton Jeanty with first pick; if gone, trade down and pick best RB in our early 2nd round and draft 1st round offensive tackle stud, ready to start at RT; 3rd round select a road grading guard; if we pick up an extra 3rd or 4th rounder, use that for a DT or some speedy FS, as I see too many opposing players run through our secondary. Hooker and Wilson have lost two steps.

It is impossible to rebuild both the offense and defense in one year, with the Cowboys' proven 30 year inability to manage the salary cap; always giving too much to a few players, leaving little money for the rest of the young players who leave after their rookie contract.

I do not believe in Dak being some elite QB. If he has improved OL play with the genie out of the bottle in Ashton Jeanty, you will see the great impact of a Tony Dorsett in 1977, Emmitt Smith in 1990 and Zeke in his rookie year. Jeanty will transform this offense. Tacklers bounce off of him, he has enormous acceleration speed, he is an Emmitt Smith-like dominator with more speed.

I have been saying this since last year. Steele does not have lateral mobility, specially to his right. he can't take a step and DEs know this. a little quickness, a little jump to the outside and he is cooked. so not surprise to see steele struggle like he does. and not sure if they will get rid of him since Jerry doesn't like to cut players and take deadmoney, he likes to go to the end of the contract, because dead money means he is paying twice for the same position.

Same with Martin. he should have had Martin play last year and then let him walk. it was obvious he was getting old and injuries prone. but Jerry keeps players to the end of the contract. Bilicheck and Walsh used to let players go earlier. they had said, they rather let a player walk a year too early, than a year too late. its too costly to a football team.

this is why the cowboys are one of the lowest dead money teams in the league, because if you look at the history over the past few years, almost all their players complete their contracts and then they are let go. all of them a year too late.

I don't know if he can play inside and take Martins spot or not. But he can't be counted on the be the RT of the future for the Cowboys.
