Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson missed Monday's start of organized team activities because he is unhappy with his contract. Johnson has five years remaining on his contract and will make a base salary of $5.8 million in 2010. The OTAs are not mandatory like the June minicamp. The Texans' policy is to not talk about contracts with players who are not participating in team drills. Texans general manager Rick Smith said he has been in contact with the Pro Bowl receiver and plans to meet with him at some point. Two years ago, Johnson reworked his contract that was an eight-year deal worth $60 million that included a $15 million signing bonus. He is represented by his uncle, Andre Melton. Johnson has been selected to the Pro Bowl four times in his eight NFL seasons. He has caught 216 passes for 3,144 yards and 17 touchdowns.

He shouldn't have signed it then.

I'm sick and tired of hearing these guys sign a contract and then throw a fit about it two years later.

Houston radio is just going nuts over the whole thing. They can feel their "must make playoffs" season ending before it even begins.

In all fairness to Johnson, it is rumored to signed the current contract a few years ago at a bargain price to help the texans and now he is wanting his reimbursement.

Yeah what a shame that the guy wants fair market value for his talent and what he brings to the team.

Geez what a terrible guy.

This **** happens every year. Just because you get an idiot like Snyder who signs a guy to an insane contract doesn't mean you're worth that much too.

He maybe should have gotten somebody beside his uncle to negotiate his last contract. Dumb move.

I have no sympathy for him.

Ok fine give him fair market value every season as long as he agrees to take a pay cut if his production goes down.
