AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas quarterback Garrett Gilbert, who lost his starting job after two games and then had season-ending shoulder surgery, plans to transfer.

Gilbert was given an unconditional release from his scholarship to find another school. In a statement released Wednesday, Gilbert did not say where he planned to go, but indicated he has visited several schools and will visit more while finishing this semester at Texas.

I was expecting this. Does he get a medical red shirt this year so he will have two years left to play?

The guy sucks something fierce. He would be better off going to a division II or division III school. He will just get slapped around in division I. It's not like he will EVER get drafted to the NFL.

He'll go DII or he'll have to sit out a year...

Yes, according to the article, he will have two season of eligibility left.

He absolutely sucked. Not sure what he plans on doing. Probably need to focus on something other than football.

I feel bad for him and expected he would transfer. I wish him luck

People need to remember these kids are not Pros to trash them as many do is a bit much. They are not paid players they are 18/19 year olds kids.
