Texas Rangers draft the next Nolan Ryan

This guy already has an elite fastball and it looks like it is a rising fastball like Nolan threw.
He has a dominant slider and has a no hitter in college.

Nobody is claiming this kid is the next flame thrower. Mid 90's is good for a MLB starting pitcher but its not elite. Ryan was throwing 100 the day he stepped into the league.

Love Leiter, but he's nothing like Ryan

I think Cleveland may have gotten this year's version in Gavin Willaims....not that anyone is Ryan
But even then, Gavin "only" hits 100-101, but is usually in the 97-98 range.

Yes he did throw that fast upon entering the league. In HIGH school some players refused to face him since his pitches actually broke bones. So do some research next time before spouting drivel.

Nolan Ryan is one of my all time favorite athletes.

Great, then you should be able to tell the difference between a guy throwing mid 90's and a guy throwing 100+ miles per hour. ML hitters sure do. His fastball is considered "elite" b/c of the movement on it, not the velocity.

He fastball tops out a bit better than mid-90s. The highlight video shows 98 regularly and up to 99.

So I guess take the radar gun over the scouts. I dunno. Plenty of pitches were sub-99 but he did hit 99. He's like 21 years old? I bet he breaks 100 at some point which is a hell of a lot different than "mid-90s".

He's not Nolan Ryan and damn sure won't play for 25 seasons or so, but he's got an arm.

Did you watch the video highlights? NOPE.

If you had, you wouldn't sound so wrong. The video highlights clearly showed Jack Leiter topping off at 99 mph and averaging between 94 - 97 mph fastballs.

Sadly, it took for them to hit rock bottom to be able to draft 2nd overall and be able to draft such a quality franchise pitcher. The Rangers need a lot of work of rebuilding. I hated to see Joey Gallo traded to the Yankees, but at least the Rangers got a lot of pretty decent young talent in return to help them rebuild the team.
