When 15-year-old Ashley Donaldson found $2,000 on a Dallas street and turned it over to authorities, she thought she’d be rewarded for her honesty. But a new city policy has prevented her from pocketing the unclaimed cash, prompting an outcry from the community.

In fact, rather than reward the girl, the city policy calls for the money to be treated like contraband -- and added to the municipal coffers.

But under pressure from the public, Dallas police appear to be having a change of heart, saying the girl will likely be given the money she found if the owner doesn’t step forward.

That is the way it used to be. If you turned in cash and nobody claimed it, it became your cash. Obviously, these guys in government don't know how to run a budget so they look for other ways to load the coffers.

True. I am impressed to see the honesty this young lady showed.

I hope they start a charity to reward this young lady .... I would donate.

Honesty and integrity should be rewarded.

To what extent? The full $2000 or a smaller reward? Did she really feel she deserved a reward for her honesty or was that just something the writer of the article made up? I thought you were supposed to do good deeds just to do good deeds. There isn't supposed to be an expectation of something in return. The act of doing something good and honest is a reward itself. I do think she deserves a small amount of money for her good deed. I applaud her for that.

I guess sadly, I admit, I don't trust very many people.

When I have found money, or something of value, I will report that I have found something of value without saying what it is exactly, and if the person who lost it can describe it to me, I will give it to them.

I have felt this way since I suspected someone kept the money that I turned in after finding it in the store.

I will keep it if nobody claims it, but if someone does, I expect no reward.

If it goes unclaimed it should be put into a tuition account for her. Additionally, the city should match it.

I don't know if I could have done at 15.

I probably would have ordered up a buch of Destiny's and Madison's.

That's the correct answer, put it towards her education.
