Vlad may be gone. I think Michael Young as well.We have money and a supersmart GM. I think we get Lee and Greinke. Im serious. lol. I would love to get a solid left fielder too. Crawford anyone? lol
Michael Young is under contract till 2013.
The Rangers have David Murphy. Dollar for dollar he is a better deal than Crawford. Crawford is a better player, but Murphy makes plays and isn't a liability in LF. Crawford is going to demand BIG dollars. Murphy is cheap which allows money to be spent elsewhere.
I don't see the Rangers getting Greinke. They are already going to have cash problems within the next two years. The Rangers are going to have to win from within. This is the path they started about 3-4 years ago and it along with a few key trade deadline pickups got them to the World Series. If they drop that plan like that idiot Hicks did when he bought the team, the Rangers will go right back to being perpetual losers.
Honestly, I would love to keep Lee, but if he is going to eat close to 30% of the payroll. I'm not sure he is worth keeping. What happens when the guys you've raised from the minors come due? CJ Wilson is MUCH younger than Lee and he is due next year I think. Hamilton and Cruz are due in two years I think. (arbitration this year) That is just scratching the surface.
I sure hope Nolan and Greenberg have a good plan, because keeping the team together is going to be expensive and I don't want to cash in all the chips today just to win for two more years then return to the bottom. We need an even distribution if spending where it's warranted and growing the rest from within. A payroll over $100 is an express ticket back to Loserville.
