The benefits of starting Romo vs. Bledsoe

The defenses wouldn't be able to game-plan solely on getting to the QB.
It would open up our passing game by allowing the TE's to get involved.
It would open up the running game due to defenses having to cover more receivers.

The reason I start Romo is simple.

1. There isn't any mistake that Romo will make that I can be reasonably sure Bledsoe won't make the same one. That is an absolute fact. Bledsoe is making mistakes that you see rookies make, and so why not play a younger guy, you might as well.

2. Bledsoe (as Tom Jackson said after the game last night) is a defense's dream. He is going to be 6 or 7 yards back and in the same spot every time he throws. People can poo poo the idea all they want and talk about Vick's sacks, etc., and they are just kidding themselves. Bledsoe is a sack machine.

3. You KNOW what Bledsoe is, and you KNOW you aren't winning a Super Bowl with him. In my opinion, it needs to be Super Bowl or bust in Dallas. This ain't Houston where we just want a winning record. So take the first step in finding out whether Romo can take you to the level you want to get to. If he can't DRAFT A FIRST ROUND QB.

Because Drew Bledsoe lost this team before Lito Shephard crossed the goal line against Philly. The instant the ball touched Lito's hands, the end was near, and the team knew Bledsoe was done.

Despite the errors on Romo's part, the team looked different. They looked alive.

Under Bledsoe our offense looked dead, which shouldn't be the case with Witten, Glenn, Owens, Jones and company.

Good defensive coaches will be licking their chops to face a green QB who made the kind of rookie throws that Romo made last night. Things will only get more difficult for him as opposing teams game plan for him.

I hope he has the moxie to fight through it.

Absolutely right! Romo brought a fresh enthusiasm to the offense that it has lacked. They started playing like they cared for a change. The team believes in him and it shows. How they felt about Bledsoe showed, too.

I'm not saying they wouldn't rather face Bledsoe.

I'm only saying it's naive to assume that Romo can only play better with a week as the clear starter. He may, and he may not. This league is filled with guys who play well in spot-duty but struggle when other defenses start game-planning for them.

Not to mention that the defenses DON'T really know what Romo can do. Nobody does. It makes them prepare for alot more.

Agree 100% and said as much last week before the switch. I don't look at Romo as some savior who is going to deliver the team to the promised land.

Last night was more or less what I expected. Some good plays that showed there is talent there, some bad plays that show he still needs a lot of work.

BUt I've had enough of Bledsoe. And this is from someone who supported him last year and thought he could play well with an at least slightly revamped line. He hasn't.

Move had to be done. Period. Should have been done 2 weeks ago. But I'm under no illusion that the growing pains are not just starting for Tony Romo.

i would like BP to play romo like roethlisberger or rivers when they first started out, conservative, run the ball, just TO and glenn. just to see how it works and see if the defense can win a game by themselves.

if it doesn't work, wait until 14 pts down. then go gun slinging, but i'd like to know whether it's possible. seems like every game, apart from the giants, the defense has played ok considering the early turnovers. i'm going to give roy a pass with the ref.

Smart, young Qb's have done pretty well in recent history in the NFL. The ones that seem to fail early are the ones who are thrust into a bad situation.

Let's not forget, muhc like Rivers, Romo has had plenty of time to learn. He might be inexperienced in terms of game play, but he has been around here longer than even Bledsoe. The defense, though bad last night, have been quite good this year. The running game has been there, besides last night. The weapons have been there all year, and actually looked like they were being used by Romo.

Romo is in a perfect situation to succeed, from a personel stand point on our team.

The schedule doesn't favor him. But I think overall, the team is good enough to help him get his feet under him.

Parcells will stress keeping Turn Overs to a minimum, and paying smart. I think the defense might play with some energy knowing the QB is capable of opening up the O a bit.

Of course this is all wishful thinking, but Romo could very well suceed early, like we have seen with a number of other young QB's.
