I have run dozens and dozens of mock drafts over at profootballnetwork. This result is the best we can hope for:

24 - Jackson Powers-Johnson OC - Oregon
57 - T’Vondre Sweat NT - Texas
87 - Braelon Allen RB - Wisconsin
174 - Tommy Eichenberger LB - Ohio State
216 - Jowon Briggs DL - Cincinnati
233 - DeCameron Richardson CB - Mississippi State
244 - Baylor Cupp TE - Texas Tech

Even this would leave several holes to fill in free agency.

No LB until pick 174 means we couldn’t count on a starting LB from this draft.
No WR and it’s an overlooked need.
No DE to replace snaps lost to FA.

I only took Baylor Cupp bc he’s 6’ 6” and we need to develop goal line specialists (Braelon Allen pick was meant to help with short yardage and goal line).

I think you’ve picked up some good players but “the best we can do” would not be reaching for need in just about every round.

Just read a nugget that we can see as many as 8 OTs come off the board in 1st round. I'm not feeling JPJ at 24, maybe a trade down but we will likely draft an OT/G with 24 or 57. I would much rather take 3rd or 4th best CB than 7-8th best OT with the 1st.

I based picks off the PFN player rankings because I don’t know enough to rank them myself. These are all picked up at or way after their ranking at PFN - good values by their rankings.

There really aren’t many 320 pound plus DT’s and that is what we need most IMO. Mazi ain’t the one.

You take BPA and hope that the positions you snag will have a domino effect. Hitting the trenches early is beneficial to the rest of the field. Also, understanding you can probably get a center in the third round probably means you can get some flexibility with one of the picks in the first two rounds. Ideally though, they should (if nobody falls) trade down and pick up an extra third or fourth. This should allow us to hit the trenches and grab a LB to contribute and RB to rotate. RBs mean nothing if the line is not worked on. Also, highly beneficial to LBs.

Draft is deep at WR, and while I am uncomfortable with our WR depth, we do have Tolbert going into year 3 (not a fan, but will trust the development), Brooks who showed flashes last year (I think I am higher on him) and some practice squad guys who could step up this second year (Cropper?). Giving Dak protection will serve beneficial to the offense in general. Also, Dak understanding he has two legs, helps too. Dak had an MVP level year for a good part of the season with the current group. Im not as down as others with this group, but not ecstatic either, as it could be improved.

I'd rather see another OL or RB or a WR than a TE taken in any rounds. We don't have picks to waste on positions that already have starters and good depth.

I am a believer that, if a player falls, and that player can put a good position group over the top…you have to consider that player. CeeDee plus a WR who drops could give us that elite WR group. I would be OK with a WR at 24.

I’ve done some trade down simulations that are incredible…where we end up getting 2 firsts and a second next year. But trades in simulators are about as realistic as Madden.

That influences my thinking about Mazi. Maybe their confidence in him led them to let Hankins get away.

I hope Mazi is busy getting back to big-man status this offseason.

I’ve done mocks where we end up with 6 picks in the top 100. They were all 51-87.

Some of those allowed for taking 2 RB or 2 LB. We could use 2 of each.

I like the draft. Power run game up the middle improves and stopping the run in the middle improves. Only issue is I'd really like to see a WR drafted to compete for WR3 vs Tolbert, but I'd take this draft + the wealth of talent the Cowboys UDFA class will provide.
