Anyone use one of these (Big Green Egg, Dome, etc) grill/smokers? Impressions? Worth the cash?

If you did buy one, any regrets or thoughts on what you may have done differently if you were able to do over again?

Recipes?

Your thoughts on the best product available as far as best bang for the buck?

favorite woods/charcoals?

Tips for getting best grilling/smoking results?

I have been a gas grill guy for a long time - strictly for convenience sake. I fully agree that things taste better coming off of charcoal & wood. However, I don't have a lot of experience in the world of charcoal, and I don't know anything about slow cooking/smoking. This is a skill I want to learn & I want to get the right cooker for the job. I usually ease into this kind of thing by spending the minimal amount of money needed to try it, then end up disappointed or replacing the first product with something I should have bought to begin with... I want to do it right this time. :)

Big green egg is expensive, but from what I hear does a fantastic job.

A much cheaper, more portable and equally effective option is the Weber Smokey Mountain.

There is a website here: http://www.virtualweberbullet.com/ with all the info and know-how you'd ever want.

A buddy of mine has one and loves it. I think his only regret is not spending the couple extra bucks more to get the larger model. I think it's a great option and will last you several years before you are ready to 'upgrade'.

If you want to save a couple of bucks, keep an eye on craigslist. they are up for sale there all the time.
