is his desire to be seen as a football guy. Sure he's arrogant, sure he's stubborn but he also has some sort of inferiority complex about how people see him. He's in the Hall of Fame as an owner, in large part, for what he did for the league in terms of money, TV rights, etc. He was an key factor in all of that.

But I think he'd rather be in the Hall of Fame as a player or a coach or a even a GM. He is desperate to be seen as a football mind, a football guy and that clouds every decision he makes. If he cowtails to the fans or the media or makes a decision that was essentially dictated by outside forces, he believes it hurts his credibility and status as a football guy. So everything he does is with that in mind - the end goal is for him to be seen and revered as being a brilliant football mind.

And the sad thing is, it's going to be his downfall. He's been so focused on what his legacy is, he's running the franchise aground

And in the end, the people who suffer the most are the fans and also the players, to an extent.

It's amazing to me that NO ONE in his inner circle can convince him that even in the slight chance that we win why he is alive...no one will think its because he knows what he is doing. He's had almost 30 years to prove he knows what he is doing...so if he wins at this point...EVERYONE will see it as luck!!!!!

Which is why this is so frustrating. There is a reason only 2 teams in the NFC have not made it to the NFC title game in almost 30 years...because everyone else has either been good and/or lucky. The league is designed for you to at least get lucky (especially in a 30 year window) even if you are not good. But the fact that he is not good AND he can't get lucky is scary stuff.

I remember reading that McCarthys 3 year run at 12 - 5 came with unprecedented results. NEVER in the history of the NFL has a team gone 12 - 5 three straight years and NOT make the conference title game at some point during that run. This is the territory we are in folks!!!!!
