The Bulletproof dog that stormed bin Laden's lair

High-tech K9 SEAL vest can cost $30,000 — and makes for one very bad canine

If you see this dog coming for you, run. Thanks to his extensive training — and customized body armor that can cost upward of $30,000 — he's bulletproof, can hear through concrete and can record high-def video of missions, even in the dead of night.

Since the moment it was revealed that the "nation's most courageous dog" (Update: named "Cairo") served alongside the 80 Navy SEALs who took out Osama bin Laden, America's fascination with war dogs has hit a fevered pitch. And while the heart-tugging photos of these four-legged heroes are worth a look, so is the high-tech gear that helps them do their job....

I am surprised that this does not upset you Concord.

He's doing his job and they are protecting him as well as they can.

No problem.

Killing animals for sport...there's my problem.

Bulletproof?

"I can see his head. Shoot him in the head".

Humm.............

Probably be a while before I can pick one of those up at the local Army Surplus Store.

Hear through walls? He must have the Whisper 2000 on that high-tech vest of his

it's the dogs themselves that are the real investment. The Navy’s first Master Military Working Dog Trainer (a trainer of other dog trainers), Luis Reyes emailed from Afghanistan: "There are many products that help MWDs (military work dogs) and many are ‘cool’ but not necessary. "No amount of money can replace the life of a canine that saves the precious lives of our troops in harm's way."

I love hearing this.

By posting a picture of the dog's face we can readily assume his cover has been blown.
No more covert operations for this mutt, now the enemy recognizes him...think about it,they see that dog coming and they yell Ruuuuuuun,Abdul,Hamed...the Taliban Hating Sheperd is coming!!!!

A substantial amount of that dog is unprotected, so bulletproof might be overstating things just a bit.

True.

They can rappel with the dog hanging from them huh? I would assume then that they can parachute with one as well.

So much for the old joke, why don't the blind sky dive? Scares the **** out of their dog.

I had a similar thought but I let it go. :D

I never got that joke. As much as dogs love sticking their head out of car windows, I always imagined they would absolutely love sky diving.
