If you want to rage and rant...this won't be the thread for you. If you want to think perhaps it is.

Here's how to make sense of today's big external signings...:
A - The Team making the splash has a QB on a cheap or rookie contract...or no real QB...so big wads of cash available
or
B - The Team spent its big wad on day one and won't do any other major moves

Examples of A:
Chicago, SF, Falcons, Seahawks,

Examples of B:
Chiefs, Giants

Only exception to this pattern: Broncos, Browns - teams in dubious situations.

Dallas doesn't have a QB on a cheap contract, with league's priciest RB group. They will make one splash external signing, IMO.

Not arguing with your points, but since you said this is a "thinking thread" I am just thinking some of the conclusions you made could be questionable.

First of all, Seattle has a probowl QB they just gave a $100 million dollar contract to, they really dont fit in your groupings of teams that have a cheap QB or no QB at all.

Secondly, how do you know teams like the Chiefs and Giants are done and wont do any more major signings? Isnt that just you guessing and not really a statement of fact since none of us have a crystal ball?

Geno's contract hit is $10 million in 2023. Seahawks can get out of that contract after one year with just $17 mil in dead cap. It's not remotely like the top 10 QB contracts. Thus they've got coin.

Don't need a crystal ball. Just checked KC's cap space. No more big external signings. Didn't look closely enough at Giants. They really didn't make huge signing today, so they have a bit of room for something notable.

Example C: The Cowboys with the same, now, old men playing fantasy football front office.

Expecting them to suddenly reach new heights takes more self-delusion than I can muster.

Top five in regular season wins over past two years combined. So the front office must be doing a few things right.

Agree they have a hard ceiling but it's due to lack of top QB and lack of top head coach. Breaking the bank in free agency won't fix that.

All I can say to the churning emotions around here: If you feel trapped with the Cowboys hard ceiling then do something about it. Adopt another team or two. Change your expectations or fan formula.

It's just plain poor management no matter what the year is. We didn't make any splashes when Dak and Zeke were on their rookie deals either. Hmmm maybe that's because Dumb and Dumber had already overpaid guys like Romo and we couldn't afford anything

You sound like the Houston mayor telling firemen if they don't like losing half their pension and no pay raise in a decade go somewhere else.

It doesn't work that way. Just like most people can't walk away from half a career into a pension, most people can't "adopt another team or two." Most of these guys have decades invested in this team. We are stuck and frustrated this FO doesn't appear to know a formula that can get the team past the divisional round.

Drama much? Adding a team to root for is not comparable, bro, to losing a pension...LOL.

Add a team, or change other aspects of your fan strategy. I was 25 years heavily into the team, but knew I needed to switch things up. I now focus on the regular season. Watch recorded games almost exclusively. Focus on the aesthetic and intellectual parts of the sport. Like to chat about it. Don't take results seriously. Have other favorite teams.

Coaches switch teams. Players switch teams. Even owners sometimes relocate teams. No fan is bloody trapped.

I've quite enjoyed 25 Cowboys wins the past two years. Reading this forum you'd think it was a winless team and were watching from prison chewing on boiled rats. It's insanity.

Free agency cavalry won't come to save the Cowboys day--this year or next. Or the year after that. Live in reality: enjoy the bounty of comp picks we stack up because Dallas doesn't shop hard in FA. Find the fun.

Bottom 18.75% in NFC championship appearances in the last 28 years is what really counts!

An NFC championship under the current "world climate" with Goodell, under Jerry, and with Dak is a pipe dream.

Appreciate the good things that we have under the Cowboys ceiling...or find some way to reconfigure your NFL enjoyment.

Alternatively, you can howl at the moon.

The cowboys will not sign anyone close to the caliber to the player the chiefs signed

This thread is a fail

Na man, it's not the same.

I have more of my heart invested in the team.

The idea of adding another team is ludicrous crap, for me.

Glad your able to do so, so easily.

Fwiw, I always enjoy the ride. I'd just like to see it not stop early one more time.

San Fran had ~13mil cap space, before signing Hargrave. His 2023 cap hit is 6.7mil.

They also have to re-sign Bosa, who will reset the edge market.
While San fran has QB's on rookie deals, they are/were paying top dollar for the OT, LB, DTx2 and other positions.

DreMont Jones cap hit hasn't been factored in for Seattle on OTC, but they have 16mil cap space prior to his signing, same as Dallas.

Top 5 in regular season wins...that's thin soup..the words post season are noticeably absent from your post

Sadly they will probably spend more on rb this year than last year.

Daks fault.
