The dichotomy of being a 11-12 win team and bombing in the playoffs

Seriously, fixing this can't be that easy.

If they're bad, it's actually pretty easy. But they keep getting 11-12 regular season wins and a postseason appearance out of these players and more importantly, coaching under MM and his staff. Granted, they're beating teams they should be beating, but they want a few against some tough teams too (see Detroit).

So we can't completely blame the culture, because how else are they winning divisions or wild card berths the past few years if the 'culture' were that bad, or the team was that soft? Dak is a 10 to 15 ranked quarterback in the NFL; he is who he is, and I think Dallas is getting the most out of them during the regular season.

So why then the complete implosion during the playoffs? Why can't this team, especially the coaching staff, turn it up a notch like others can in the post season? That's the question. They have no problem getting there; more than half the league has a problem getting into the postseason.

What's missing and how do you fix it WHILE KEEPING THE 11-12 WINS EACH YEAR?

I honestly think this is why Jerry, Stephen, and Co. are struggling with this.

I think you let Dak play the regular season and get them to the playoffs, Have Lance play in the playoffs that way the teams wont be spotted 2qts of horrible qb play with the game almost out of reach. :lmao:

You can't. A head coaching change will almost certainly bring diminishment in Year One.

To answer my own question...

Dallas's regular season record over the last two years is probably been inflated by the dumpster fires that are the Washington and New York Giants franchises. If they're in the AFC North for example, I doubt they win 11 to all games.

I feel like there’s enough free agents and draft picks out there to fix both lines and the RB, LB, S issues. IF they can convince them to sign.

But the one that really compounds it is the quarterback issue. Yeah, you know you’ll get some wins and a steady season, but you also know what will happen in the postseason again and big games, making all of it worthless. And we saw so many teams this year struggle without their guy at quarterback. It’s easy to say, hey let’s give Trey Lance a shot, but if he doesn’t improve on what he was before, season is over. We don’t have enough draft capital for one of the high first round picks, and probably going to have to spend to get the better free agent quarterbacks like Kirk Cousins or Russell Wilson, neither one which I’m convinced will solve anything. A lot of similar Dak issues with both.

I'd rather sink with Lance next year then swim to 1 and done with dak.... worse case is Lance fails and you get a good draft pick or do we want another 1 and done and pick in the 20's??

Both players who had Victory parties planned after the game need to be cut immediately. And that goes for everyone else during the game showing minimal effort. I would also trade parsons, lamb, and whoever else I could. If they aren't going to get past the first round then what's the point of keeping anybody? Just clean house and send a message. We can't afford to pay all these guys anyway. Dak also needs to be cut after June 1st.

Jerry needs to show the fans that he serious. Sticking with this same team is going to be worse than going 5 and 11 with a rebuilding roster.

Trading Lamb is insane. He was the best WR in the NFL. And that's with Dak.

A weak schedule in a weak division can often produce pretty solid regular seasons.

In the playoffs, coaching matters. The Cowboys haven't had good Xs & Os playoff coaches in, hec, I can't even remember the last good ones they had.

And if they played clean football, I'd let some of this slide. But we've had coaches who can't limit penalties AND can't outcoach the other team in the Big Games???

And hec, McCarthy's not even good at clock and game management in too many games.

So, the 12 wins per season and the 8-0 at home (but the home schedule was favorable because this team wouldn't have beat the Niners or Bills at home), it's just not enough.

Playoff wins matter.

We've seen enough of McCarthy, he is who he is...move on.

We are getting the brakes beat off us in the post season every year, and every time Jerry waits, lets the dust settle, then he does his rah rah ah shucks schtick to the fan or anyone that will listen...then he tells us we are a SB team and he starts selling that crap to us. He is promoting the team because the draft is coming. The combine first...so he takes a mini vacation after we get boat raced, lets the fans calm down, then he tries to pump up the team again . We have seen this year after year. He luvs status quo. It makes him money. Any press is great press in his view. That said, I hope we get wildcat Jerry and he fires MM and the staff. A message must be sent loud and clear that its a new day in Dallas. But again, thats not Jerry's recent history.

Jerrys M.O...Never let a crisis go to waste. His silence right now is garnering much notoriety. I do think something is coming soon. I really do. I just can't see realistically how he can get the gang back together again after this clusterbleep 2 years in a row and this was far worse than 2022. I am struggling with the idea Jerry will let this pass. My gut feel is, MM will "retire" soon and it will be a luv fest at the presser. THEN we will find a new HC. I think by Friday we will start to hear about this scenario. It would be a win win ie a friendly firing of sorts. I actually do feel Fat Mike is wore out. He looks tired and spent. I wouldn't be shocked 1 bit if my scenario happens. The pressure cooker in Dallas is real...its hard. Jerry makes it worse.

Do you remember when Arizona was in our conference those were almost always easy wins until Larry Fitzgerald came?

This. There aren’t as many quality teams in the league any more. Very top heavy. Dallas is about the 6th-10th best team. Way above the 20-32 tier and way below the top 2 tier
