Now that the entire draft is over, draft picks, and UDFA here is my initial thoughts: This is a draft that will show up later in the 2023 season. Not because of lack of talent. They have some injuries and there is talent ahead of them on the roster. However, they are very good athletic football players that will play for the Cowboys or another NFL team.

Beyond the shadow of a doubt, there will be 2 FBs on this 2023 final roster. Cowboys OL needs another Center and Jason Peter's type player to add to the roster and solidify the OL. This training camp will be competitive at every position excluding QB. But, I am hoping for a QB addition to prode/push Dak (see Beuerlein pushing Aikman).

Beurlein did not “push” Aikman anymore than the backup in KC pushes Mahomes. He won some games while Aikman was hurt but that’s it. No one with a brain thought he was better

So both of the top 2 picks are coming off injuries? What the hell is Jerry's fascination with injured players? Damn........

Very ambitious with the UDFAs. If those guys even make the PS to be developed later it's a win for the scouting group.

What exactly am I missing on DE Fehoku. My guess they’ve had there eye on and a plan for him going back to when they scouted Bland last year. He’s got the size, speed, motor and production to provide meaningful snaps at 3t, 4t, 5t. He’s what they were expecting with Goulston and should push him off the roster.

The receiver will compete with the semi Fehoku to replace Brown in that coveted blocking WR role.

Don't think he pushes Golston off the roster. He was showing well, especially later in the season. Think Fehoko takes Gallimore's spot. Mazi takes the place of Watkins/Bohanna.

Eh, not sure how keen they are with not having at least one 3t over 300lb!

I'm pretty sure we'll play Mazi and Hankins on early downs. Golston and Odighizuwa will play some 5-tech in the run scheme, and Fehoko may play some DE in run defense. In situations where we don't want to go big, but also don't want to go NASCAR (with Lawrence and Armstrong at DT and Williams/Fowler and Parsons at DE), we'll use Odig/Fehoko/Golston at 3-tech.

This, need Hankins and Mazi out there together and turn the dogs loose.

I see Mazi as the "3-tech" in those situations. Hankins is older and has learned over the years how to handle NFL double-teams. Mazi has some athleticism on his side that he can use with his power against single blocking. Obviously, we will play Mazi at 1-tech in some situations, such as when we have one of the smaller 3-techs on the field, but I really believe he'll be the 3 on first down. We were using Watkins and Hankins out there together after we acquired Hankins to try to play the run better, so I think Mazi will step into Watkins' role.

Revisionist history again. Anybody that remembers Babe Laufenburg in 1990 remembers why Steve Beuerlein was the back up QB in 1991. It was not to hold a clip board and fill in with a +28 point lead.

Let me define push/prodded. If you are not moving you get pushed. If you are moving in the wrong direction or too slow, you get prodded. Aikman was hurt, the team was moving with a 6 game winning streak, and Michael Irvin was putting up his biggest catch and yardage streak of the year with Beuerlein as QB late 1991. Due to his Raider background, Beuerlein threw deep balsl better than Aikman in 1991. So when Aikman got got hurt (could not move), he got pushed right out of the starting job, and would not get it back starting until Beuerlein hot hand went cold. When Aikman was on the sideline watching WR yards per catch go up, he got prodded to improve the deep ball passing.

Jimmy Johnson was a Psych major and stayed in Aikman's head until he became Troy Aikman after the 1991 season. Romo needed pushing and prodding. Dak needs pushing and prodding. What do Staubach, Aikman, and Danny White have in common beside multiple Super Bowl rings and multiple NFC Championship games? Back up QBs that pushed and prodded (see Craig Morton, Danny White, Clint Longley, Gary Hogeboom, Steve Beuerlein, and Bernie Kosar).

He has the weight, suffiecient speed/quickness, and strength to play both DE spots and RDT (3 tech). Daron Bland played at Fresno St. not San Jose St. But it probably was the same area scout for both players.
