The frustrating part of it is you still see the players effort *merged*

Well, there are plenty of frustrating things with this team.

I should say ONE of the frustrating parts is that you see most of these guys actually playing hard.
As bad as the Defense has been I think they are playing hard for the most part. They just have too many people out and not enough talent up the middle. They tried to fix the middle some by drafting Mazi. That has not panned out.
However I hope that does not prevent them from drafting a DT in the first if there is a good one sitting there.

The online is hurting as well. They are playing hard but it is just not enough right now.

Martin is not who he used to be. His injuries are hurting him and he is also trying to help a rookie center and a RT that has never went back to his one good year. The RBs are just not good enough to be starters.
All of them are backup, rotational backs at best. Again another problem created by the front office.

I think the majority of players are still playing hard. And I like the idea of some of the younger players getting a chance...even though it is mostly due to injuries...but still getting some playing time is a good thing.

Playing hard is great, but not knowing what you are doing, having no plan and very little back up.....too much to overcome

Yeah it is bad enough that you are hurting because a good number of your players are injured or you have little to no depth. And I do not know what else zimmer could do.
However I do think this offensive game plan is not working and the penalties. Big Mike is not the only problem with this team but he is a problem no doubt.

Coaching, not just the head coach has been a big problem. The Joneses either need to cancel vacations or hire a competent GM to hire a head coach/coaching staff. It all starts with who the Joneses bring in to coach this team.

Yeah I'm actually happy with how much McCarthy and Zimmer are getting out of these guys. Ultimately the issue is they just dont have enough starting NFL caliber talent to compete with anything but the bottom tier teams in the league.

We can talk about scheme all day long, but you have to have players to dictate how the opposition plays you to really take advantage of those schematic advantages. If I can bracket Lamb and no one else can win 1V1s with any regularity no scheme in the world will matter.

Been saying it, it’s more about the scheme than the players. We have a handful of football players on defense that are given 100%.

Not if they’re not put in position, as a squad and not individuals

It takes more than one wide receiver, because they’ll double him period. So it is the scheme. It is the team.

I'm not saying I love everything this coaching staff is doing. I've said for a while now that i think they are missing opportunities in the run game due to a lack of pre snap motion. I also have never been a big fan of Zimmers coverage philosophies, especially with a guy like Diggs in your backfield. Playing mostly 1 deep safety against Baltimore left me scratching my head, etc. Ultimately though I just don't think they have enough guys for it to matter either way. Offensively I really dont think this passing attack is as elementary as people make it out to be though. I really think not going after a legitimate #2WR this offseason was a massive miss that could have opened things up in a big way. Similar situations on defense at DT and CB after Bland went down. Its just a lot harder to scheme your way to a victory when you have massive holes at multiple positions.

This perfect storm of Murphy's law is actually good for the future. It will be interesting how it turns out, but it is much better for the team to lose and move up into the top 3 of the draft. We have a legit shot with the injuries and the qbs that we have.
