Thee are five positions in NFL football where who is THE GOAT cannot be debated/argued...

QB Tom Brady
Ball carrier...(actually a FB) Jim Brown
WR....Jerry Rice
Outside linebacker...Lawrence Taylor
And Kick Returner....Devin Hester, he is on a whole other level than anyone who ever returned NFL kicks.

Without question a Hall of Famer

Gets no better than this...

Can't really argue. I've seen everyone on that list play except for Jim Brown. But people that have seen him play seem to still think he's the best, so I won't argue.

I love Devin Hester's vision. You get butterflies in your stomach on kickoff returns. At least I did. And only on kickoff returns.

Jim Brown seemed to be the Babe Ruth of his time. A RB built like today's, playing back then. The perfect storm. The dude probably had a ton of fun.

Brown and Bob Hayes could play today, Brown would average less but would gain 1000yards, Hayes has always been faster than any NFLer.

I didn't run track. I was not a long distance runner, just sprints. I was never run down, ever. But you have to understand, adrenalin plays a big role. Game speed can be different from a 40 time. What matters is game speed. I played a ton of sports but rarely track. Mainly because I always had a mild case of asthma. They literally wouldn't let me. Because back in the 80s they got too worried.

Trust me my friend there is no....game speed.....ok? Fast guys are fast and slow guys aren't game time or not. Tyreek Hill is always the fastest cat out there, and would be the fastest on a track, an alley, a parking lot, where ever.

There is game speed. I was never good in a race against fast guys. I would always be in the mix, but never clearly in front. No adrenalin flowing. I remember racing about a dozen guys once and we all came in at a photo finish. In a game, not catching me.

In a race, or a 40 time, it seems like you're running uphill. In a game it's downhill. Everyone is different. Like I said, I was the fastest player on every field I've been on against my peers. I don't care what their 40 time is. What matters is if you can catch me in a game. I was never once run down.

Dude, track sprinter and running back here, and a track & field history buff. Trust me my man, you don't have track speed and football speed, it just doesn't work that way. Why do yu think we always see a fast cat returning kick offs, not a.....football speed.....guy, a track speed guy.

If ya need to believe that,,,,game speed...thing go for it, but....a fantasy,

Look, I don't know what to tell you. I have never been run down on a football field. I've beaten the fastest of my peers in every game I've ever played. Guys that ran a 4.4 didn't catch me. Remember, this is the 80s, I played about a million games. We didn't have too much video game entertainment. I guess if I played at higher levels things would be different. I don't know. I just know I was always the fastest guy on the field.

So you played in a HS league where guys were clocked in 4.4? So you know how fast those at other schools were, you know their 40 times?

This is getting a little confusing my friend, I played 4 years of HS ball and have no idea how fast anyone else was.

I just figured out from a young age of around 15 or 16 that no one could catch me. No one ever did. Maybe everyone I ever met was slow, you might be right. One time I was playing a sandlot game and a guy asked me what my 40 time was. I couldn't answer him, because at that time I didn't know. But he was the running back on the Irvington NJ football team. He ran a 4.4 and couldn't catch me with an angle. So he was curious. I told him I didn't know. I can only play my competition. I just know my football career was very enjoyable.

Oh, I want to say one more thing. When I mentioned butterflies for kickoffs, I said that because it is a high impact play. It's the only play where you have to prepare yourself mentally.

Apparently you never returned punts, that play is actually scarey, here come 10 guys dying to crush you as ya just stand there waiting.

Maybe we are miscommunicating. That's why I had butterflies in my stomach. The kick return is the scariest play, end of story. I played WR, CB, and KR. That's it. Punts never scared me.

The hardest I was ever hit was always on punt returns simply because thy had velocity and I didn't.

Really? I have to say I'm shocked. Because you control what happens in a punt. I can't even remember a single punt return, although I'm sure I've returned them. The kickoff I always thought was wicked because everyone is running at full speed toward eachother. I don't remember any punt problems. Just fair catch it if players are too close.

I've had multiple contusions from kickoffs. That's about it.

Umm......yeah. Because at the time I didn't know what my 40 was. In fact, it took me a 100 times just to post something under a 4.4

I was timed one time in a 40, ran a 4.6 hand timed on grass. You were timed 100 times? Really?

Once the coachs get a 40 for the players to be doing it again makes no sense. a 100 times, why? Best way to pull something, trying to run full speed.

I'm exaggerating. I could never post good 40 times. No adrenalin. I tried several different methods. But over and over again. But what ultimately mattered to me was that I was the fastest player on the field.

Speaking of Devin Hester and kickoff returns. I loved watching him. Get to the middle of the field and work from there. Every kickoff returner wants to go up the sideline. But they know they can't. But their eye is always there just in case they can. Did you notice that when he was running? He moved to the middle of the field. If there was one mistake on the outside he would hit it quick.

Tell ya what my friend let's stick to Hester.

Hester simply had...IT...and the speed to make it work. He was like a Herb Washington who had an outerworldly start in track, he was gone in two steps and nobody could match him. Amazing at it.

Check him out at Miami...
