With Mickey's article and someone's recap of the interview, I am grinning ear to ear. Ellis is buying in, and is trying hard.
I've sympathized with him, and though I argued a bit at the beginning for him, I've stayed out of it. But Ellis has been one of, if not my favorite Cowboys for 5 years or so. If he can transition to this role, and be happy with it, and continue to epitomize 'team' and 'class' like he always has, I'll be happy knowing he retires with a Star.
Regardless of how anyone feels about his handling of the situation, I want to give props to the front office's handling. First, it never got heated between the two. Parcells and the Jones admirably ignored the requests, but never shot any at Ellis in condesention.
Ellis never did anything personal, called anyone out, or anything like that. He protested in his own way, but did everything that was explicitly asked of him. Now, in TC, he has been seen laughing with the coach, and is working as hard as ever.
Everyone, except for some fans and media, has handled the situation very well - even Ellis, in his public gripes, kept it business-like. The fact that he and the team still to have respect for each other and understand to keep business matters where they belong should serve as an example to any body.
Cheers.
