The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - Trailer

100% digital cinema. Film is dead. This was shot on the Red camera for those like like the tech side.

This is my most anticipated movie of 2012. It will be better than The Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers, and any other blockbuster you put before it guaranteed.

I'm WAY LATE. Better merge with Heisenberg. I didn't even notice your topic brotha.

Anyway, I absolutely can't wait for this.

Guillermo del Torro has a hand in this? Oh, heck yeah.

So great they were able to get some of the cast from LOTR to play their parts in The Hobbit.

As expensive as the Red stuff is, it is amazing how much less expensive it is than traditional film equipment. I honestly saw youtube makers looking at buying a lot of that at around 50K or 70K for the starter system.

So very excited for this.

Might have to go bust out the LoTR Blu Rays and watch the extended cuts all over again...

On a related note:

Head over to google maps and ask for walking directions from "The Shire" to "Mordor"...

The warning made me chuckle.

One more reason to love Google, in addition to when a page crashes, "He's dead Jim!"

$50k is cheap for a 4k system that shoots raw. $200k for the film cameras. The new scarlet camera will be under $10k! That's going to usher in a whole new era of budget filmmaking. Check out this Scarlet test: http://vimeo.com/33595071 Amazing footage.

Del Torro was going to direct, but delays by the money and management end of things caused conflicts with some of his other projects and he had to bow out. He did a bit of preproduction work, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's involved as much as he has time for.

Are they going to make this in parts?

I would hate to see them squeezing in everything in one movie and we did not see a hint of the dragon in the trailer so I hope this is going to be more than just one movie.
