I went to the premiere this morning/last night and took a chance that paid off. Has anyone else seen it and if so have you read the other two books?

I also had never heard of it until recently. Went yesterday afternoon to see it. Walked right up, bought a ticket no problem. Might have been 12 people in the theater. VERY quiet crowd too! Kind of spooky actually...

The film was pretty good I thought. It was kind of surreal to see the kids all of a sudden start killing each other. That premise, last survivor kind of thing, reminded me of that Stone Cold Steve Austin film, what was that, The Island or something like that?

I liked that the sci-fi aspect was kept way in the background, and the focus was on the story. The Katness character chick definitely carried this film in the second half, big time. Enjoyed Woody's mentor character, and also Lenny's character...I THOUGHT that guy looked familiar.

I'll give it a 7.5 perhaps, out of 10. I would watch this again.

you couldn't have done that here yesterday, probably me being in a college town I guess. They aren't sold out today though like I thought.

Read and loved all three books.

Been seeing things here and there on the Web that even there are just 3 books, there may be 4 movies before it's all said and done. The question is, is the fourth movie going to be a prequel to The Hunger Games, or is the third movie going to be divided into two parts, like the final Harry Potter movie?

Stay tuned.

It was a cool movie, way over hyped though...

My wife insisted I read the first book before the movie, so I did, and while it's nothing amazing, it was pretty compelling and a quick and easy read.

The movie really missed out on the big factors that made the book compelling, which was Katniss' desperation and the brutality of it all. In the book, she nearly dies of starvation in the first few days of the thing, and when she gets burned it's much more dire than the movie depicts it, and the movie violence was toned down for the younger audience, which marginalized it as well.

I saw it, and everyone I was with that saw it and hadn't read the books were decidedly underwhelmed. I've read the books and even I was underwhelmed. I thought it was an okay movie, but it wasn't till I got out that I realized why it was so dull. It's rated G. I don't see how you can cover a topic like this and then try to pass it off as a kids film.

I'm sure it'll get darker like Potter got darker... or at least I hope it does.

We went to an 11am showing Sunday morning and it wasn't packed but it was full of people.

I was going to see it this weekend but then a good buddy of mine gave it a really piss poor review and that got me nervous. Then my wife went with her mom and saw it Friday night, while I was working, and she told me it was REALLY slow.

Now mind you she wanted to see the movie badly cause she's read all the books and absolutely loved them. And she loves her some movies that I think are just terrible cause they're so slow. So for her to say this movie was very slow made me very nervous.

So far I've yet to go ahead and see it because of that. I think I'll wait for DVD at this point.

It's extremely slow, but that's the case in the book as well. The problem is that the arena lasts for quite a while in the book and they had to trim a lot of stuff that isn't directly tied to the main story.

I also thought they did a terrible job of showing just how advanced the capitol's technology is. They also pretty much completely avoid the politics, which plays a major role later. I don't even think they did a good job showing how charismatic Peeta is supposed to be and the dynamics of Haymitch and Katniss' relationship. It all felt very elementary, but maybe that's what they were after.

I haven't read the book(s) or seen the movie, but some people seem to be bashing this like it's Twilight 2.0.

I don't know anything about these books / movie though.

I went and saw it last night (I have NOT read the books), and I thought it was pretty good, especially since the last TWO movies I've gone and seen have turned out to be crap. I chuckled a few times at moments that were NOT supposed to be funny. The main chick has a funny looking face. The dude in the purple hair (the host) looks funny when he smiles. I agree, it should have been darker (all dark movies, comedies are great). However, I'll still say it was a pretty darn good movie. It was much better than I anticipated.

* I haven't seen any Twilights, but I imagine Hunger Games isn't as corny, even though it's basically for the same demographic.

It's not nearly as bad as Twilight, but I never read those books either.

One of the racist twitter remarks: "Why is Rue a little black girl? Stick to the book, dude," said another.

This person clearly isn't a close reader. It's apparent in the book that Rue is black. It doesn't use the word "black", but other descriptions or her provide strong indication.

For the record, it never states that Katniss is "white."
