Dowdle, or any decent running back( Zek is no longer a decent RB), needs blocking( at least small openings to find and run through).

The last 3 games before Tampa Bay Dowdle was getting good blocking and he was very effective. Ran for over 100 yards per game. Vs Tampa Bay there were very few openings for Dowdle to run through and he was basically shut down.

TRY TO REMEMBER running backs are only as good as their blocking/ running scheme.

Dowdle is plenty good when he gets a some space to run.

So many fans: “we need a better back than Dowdle”. No, we need good blocking and good run schemes.

I do think we need another back to share the load with Dowdle though.

I would agree, but I think it depends on the year too. The last few seasons its been super easy to sign established RBs in free agency at reasonable prices which unfortunately the Cowboys chose to sit out. Now with RB pricings seeming to shoot back up and $10M or so is the going rate for an average runner I'd revert back to investing more $$$ in the OL and looking for youth in the backfield. I think there are some outliers in guys like Henry who you dont mind paying because they will dictate how honest a defense can play you, but I think Dowdle is a guy I would let walk and look to save a few bucks.
