Call me crazy. I will probably agree.
But the Lions have been really impressive this year. They've got some weapons, and their team chemistry is coming together.
In the draft, they added LaPorta, Captain Jack, and Gibbs. All players I really liked in the draft. Campbell has been stellar this season for a rookie. I look for him to have a solid day against us. One of the keys to this game will likely come down to containing Goff and the weapons he has at his disposal.
I look at the Lions on tape, and I see a contender. The only team that has blown them out of the water is the Ravens, who I believe are also a contender. Their other losses have been close games. They like to keep games against tough teams close, and they have the players and scheme to do it. The interesting part, there's no clear cut "number one" team.
Anyone who's being honest can see there are multiple teams that have a shot this year, including the Ravens, Lions, Chiefs, Philly, San Fran, the Cowboys . . . and dare I say Texans?
Many of our fans who follow the draft were really high on LaPorta. Rumors circulated just before the draft that LaPorta was on our radar, which I tend to believe. Thankfully, Ferguson has risen to the occasion this year with 659 yards to Laporta's 776. Ferguson may have taken a year to develop, but he also only cost us a 4th round pick. So, while I believe LaPorta was a solid choice, we likely got better value out of Ferguson in the long run.
I expect a close game with the Cowboys coming out on top by a smidgen. To me, this truly is a "must win" game. I hate that term. But we need to see this team bounce back, and, even if we're playing at him, garner a win today.
Two players I want to see involved today are Cooks and Ferguson.
If those two players are productive today, it'll open up the offense for everyone else.
My X factor? Jalen Tolbert. I see Tolbert as a rookie, since he wasn't really active last year. He had a big catch for us last game. I would like to see him make a substantial play early on, which would force the Lions to respect our passing game enough to keep them honest with their coverages.
I'm really looking forward to this one. We're coming up on a new year. It's time for some of our new faces to make their impact to help us pull of a much needed win.
