Has anyone gone to see any of the The Lord of the Rings extended editions at the theater? I saw the first on on June 14th and the second one on June 21st and I will see the last one on June 28th. They each have a new introduction by Peter Jackson and they have been playing the fan club credits after the movie.

One of my favorite parts in the story of The Lord of the Rings is when Frodo comes to the city of Minas Morgul. I was not sure if this would be in the movie or not. I was very happy when I saw this in the movie. In the book this happens in The Two Towers and in the movie this happens in The Return of the King.

Enjoyed the books very much and even enjoyed the movies (I own them), but I'm just not very interested in seeing the extended editions.

The funny thing is, I own the movies and never watch them. Well, Fellowship was on some movie channel not to long ago and I watched about 30 minutes of it. (up to the part were Balrog came out)

I've owned the extended editions of all three for years, so no, I'll not be going to pay more to see them.

These are extended to five hours. Next year they will be re-released as seven hour movies! :laugh2:

I will wait for the 7 hour versions to come out in the Ultimate Fellowship Mega Deluxe Box Set Edition with Action Figures and a Wall Map in the Box.

I bought a special collectors set a year ago that came with etheral underwear that protects against goblin and troll women. Well...the wife bought them for me to keep the women away from me at work. But I fooled her, I take them off at work and put on my leopard print rhinestone speedos on instead.

Call me when I have to bring a tent and camping supplies just to survive a showing.

Until then, not interested.

About the only thing I remember that the extended additions included that was really cool was the Mouth of Sauron part in the last episode. The rest was pretty much just fluff if I recall. Of course, the extended ones are the ones I watch so I don't really remember what wasn't included in the originals.

Loved the extended versions, but I'll just get them on Blu-Ray and watch them at home.

Extended versions are much better than the original cuts. Lots of bits were cut out to make the time limits for the theatrical release, not because they were bad or even inessential.

This is for the serious fans, though. Fans with long attention spans as well.

I have several friends who are going to see this as well. The big screen is a different experiance. Even for something you've seen a number of times. I remember the first time I saw a 35mm print of the Wizard of Oz: It dropped my jaw, even though I had watched the TV version a zillion times before.

I remember the first time I saw Wizard of Oz set to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon; It dropped my jaw, even though I had watched the TV version a zillion times before.

Was there a theatrical release of that? Jaws would be bouncing! :)

that was my thought too. Hell the last one, I kept expecting X scene to be the last and it wasn't. After a big movie coke, I was dying near the end ;)
